Comments:

The 3 years at East were the worst years of my life, I hate to say.
Severely depressed and withdrawn, I didn't talk to anyone and no one talked to me - except my distant cousin, Sandra Hendrix, and Robyn Gardner in Pinkston's 10 grade class. Sandra was one of the nicest people I have ever known and I was proud and flattered to be in her wedding. So I went through school like Joe Bleckley so correctly put it, as a weirdo. (Ran into Joe years later and we enjoyed a good friendship for awhile)
So, no one could pay me enough money to go through those 3 years again. I hated it and graduation was the happiest night of my life!

So, I'm sorry that I have no fond memories of being at East Forsyth. It was a painful, embarrassing and humiliating experience. But not to worry. In 2 years time I gradually came out of my dark shell and by the time I was employed by the Wake Forest Law Library, I was kicking up my heels and having a ball -making up for lost time!
(**Because of the stigma of "depression" I have not written anything until now. It's time everyone who thought I was weird and strange know the story.)
After being employed at the WFU Law Library and WS Journal (great job!) for awhile, I moved to NYC. Returned and worked 15 years at Sara Lee Knit Products.
I got interested in history and wrote several articles about Winston-Salem in the 1920s for local magazines and local newspaper.

School Story:

After coming from backstage of the Kernersville Little Theatre in which I appeared on stage, I ran into my chorus teacher, Mrs. Maxine Blackwell. We talked a bit and as I as I walked away, I heard her remark: "Oh, she was always so quiet."

Which Jr High did you attend?

Where all have you lived?

New York City 1979-1980 - studied acting HB Studio.
Had been involved in the Winston-Salem Little Theatre for 6 years and was in several musicals, South Pacific, Gypsy, Jesus Christ Superstar, and 2 forgettable plays at the Kernersville LT.
The Wizard of Oz - Stokes County.

The ironic thing with Jane and me was that we did not know each other in school! I was working at Western Electric in 1973/74 and Jane was hired in our dept. to be MISS PEP (don't ask me what this was exactly) We formed a friendship and began traveling places together. Jane was a very sweet and funny and sensitive person and we had many good times together. I was fortunate enough to meet her daughter, Trista, at Jane's memorial service. The last time I had seen Trista was in 1980 but I immediately knew who she was. Jane and I lost contact soonafter going our separate ways, but I will always remember her. BLH
