Yes, Patty was killed by a drunk driver in Glendale area, along with her young daughter, Karen.  Married to Mike Carr at the time.  I saw them at the 10 year reunion and then I believe it was early 1980's the unthinkable happened. She had a Balloon Store:  Balloons by Patty.  Very sad but God must have wanted them home.

Yes, very tragic.  She was married to dear Pat Carr and it broke his heart.  Patty was also an amazing decorator and their house was featured in some magazines.  Patrick was one of the funniest guys I've known.  May they rest in peace and God bless them and their families.

Yes, a very sad day for my family as well.  She and the children were run down by a drunk driver going south on Canyada Blvd. He was going down past the old Bob's Big Boy at a very high rate of speed, along the high hedges and fencing on the right for the Oakmont Golf Course, then came upon the slight rightward bend where the accident took place. There was a pedestrian striped walkway but no lighting nor much of any warning signs.  It had been that way forever. The accident took place about 75 yards away from my home at the time of the incident. Heard all sorts of commotion all over when it did happen much less every siren in City of Glendale's arsenal it seemed. My wife and I didn't go over to see what it was all about so didn't know until a few hours later through neighbors. About a year later the crosswalk was wired and installed full intersection stop lights. A memorial plaque was mounted on the small middle traffic island with very heavy protective railing.  Richard Mills and Pat had a great bond together back in LCHS and with Rich eating at her family's table many an evening having great laughs with her Dad he had said before.  When Dana Beardsley and I were looking for him, we knew to call her house to see when he's coming back to help fix Dana's VW Bug.

About 10 years later we had moved way up onto La Crescenta Ave.  Pat had remarried and lived at about one block above Foothill Blvd. on a side street where I am about a mile further north of his street.  I would see him at times in his yard when coming home with groceries from Ralph's taking that path home.  A few years later his second marriage had its moments like all of us have I was told.  But something didn't work for him one particular day for whatever his reason was. As driving by the street, it was taped-off and a swarm of Sherriff cars were all around it. Having to drive around all the officers slowly, I asked one what was going on because my old friend lives there. At that point he told me reluctantly that he had taken his life, and said it only because of being a friend and for me to not speak until family was notified.

One thing was for darn sure.... Pat was NEVER the same person in any way whatsoever after his family left him on that tragic day years before. Never the same person to ever be seen again.  I couldn't even begin to fathom what he felt and lost within his heart all the years remaining everyday, upon everyday, upon everyday.

May God rest their kind souls of which were bestowed upon us during those years.

Oh thank you all for correcting me on Pat Carr, not Mike.  Ed, so appreciate all the details, too. Sad.

Gary Williams provided a picture of a memorial stone, January 2023. It is a shot of Patty's memorial plaque at Verdugo Road and Canada Blvd in Glendale. Caren Carr was Pat and Patty's daughter. The location is actually a tiny, attractive park. The picture is at the top of these posts.
