My apologies for this is very late comment, but I knew Dave since I was 4-5 years old. We went through K-12 together. Dave and I were on the several little league teams together, as his dad, Don, and my dad, George, along with Pete Christos's dad Bill, often rotated coaching and managing teams together. I spent a lot of time over at Dave's house when we were young. The Andersons were family friends and Don and Joan were always so kind to me.
The last time I ran into Dave was about 1995, when I was flying into BUR. He was the same handsome Dave Anderson, with his compassionate heart and piercing eyes that said, "I geniuinely care about you and how you're doing." I remember in about 5th grade, mom had a birthday party for me, including my friends from Palm Crest. Dave was there as was Annie Davis (Dr. Ann Davis) and several other neighborhood friends. After eating cake and ice cream and opening presents, we all went outside to "burn off some engergy." Dad was monitoring us kids outside and suggested we have a race for a prize over to the neighbor's lawn. I was thinking..."this isn't even a race...Dave's gonna win this by a mile." At the "Ready, Set, Go!" we all took off. I must have been focused on anything but the finish line, but as I crossed, there was Annie Davis already turning around looking at us crossing the finish line! She beat ALL of us to the finish, including Dave. Dad still enjoyed telling that story until he died in '09. That is the one and only time I remember Dave not winning a sprint. He was blazing fast. In fact, his dad was a champion sprinter and All American sprinter at Cal Bears at one time. I remember being surprised (and honestly a bit dissapointed) when Dave chose baseball over track (as much as I loved baseball), because he could have been an LCHS track record holder to this day.
When I think of happy times in my first 10 or 11 years, Dave was a big part of that in the time we spent together. I will never forget just how respectful he was to people and how his family treated me. When I heard of Dave's passing I was saddened. I will always remember Dave that way.
