Lori Starky (Goff)

To the Class of 89

I hope that this Thanksgiving finds everyone healthy and happy. When people ask what they are thankful for, I would have to say having such wonderful people to have gone to school with. You are all very special people and I am thankful for knowing all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
Lori

Yippee!!! I am the first to post something in 2010!!! I don't think I have posted anything since the reunion so I just want everyone to know that I had a great time and I LOVED seeing everyone. If I acted strangely on Friday night it's because I was literally so nervous/anxious that I made myself sick! I was fighting a migraine and I did not feel good at all! I finally left because I thought I was going to puke. The anticipation and excitement of it all just put me right over the edge! I used to do the same thing at Christmas time when I was a kid. Do you remember those paper chains that we used to make at school? They were green and red and we would cut one each day until it was finally Christmas. Well, that slow build up about killed me! I'd be like OMG, OMG it's almost Christmas...OMG it's Christmas Eve...OMG Santa's coming!!! Get in bed, sleep...SLEEP!! I have to fall asleep or Santa won't bring me any presents!!! What?? It's Christmas morning??? Santa brought me a giant milk chocolate version of himself??? OMG...this is SOOO good...yum, yum, yum. OK, not feeling so good now. MOM!!! Too late...it's a big chocolate mess.

So, thank you all for being my big, solid milk chocolate Santa that made me sick! You're the best!

Looking through a local magazine and see an ad for the River's Edge at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.  Looks like a nice place for the next get together.  What does everyone think?  RiversEdgeTumwater.com.  Isn't this where we had the Friday night get together at the 10 year?  I remember it being in Tumwater but not quite this fancy.

I checked it out for last year and it's fancy and honestly doesn't have room for us.  It's not like before.

To our NTHS family. Found out that Michelle Stevenson Lemon passed away today. Please take a moment to say a prayer for her children and family. I will keep everyone updated here and through Facebook when I know more. Much love to everyone.

Hi Class of '89. Looks like I might finally make it over from Australia in late April 2012. I won't have a lot of time but I would really love to catch up somehow with those who remember me (exchange student at NTHS in1987). REALLY looking forward to it. XOX

Glenda that would be amazing if you were able to come.  I promise to have something figured out before the end of the year so you have plenty of time to plan!

Hello Everyone!

I'm hoping all of you are doing well.  Provided I don't have any upcoming events to work, I am planning on coming to the reunion this year and am looking forward to seeing all of you.  Please keep in touch.

Just a quick note that my therapist says im making great headway on my "Tom Leahy earns athlete of the week while Dave Worsing can suck a bowl of dicks" issue.  Time heals all wounds and im getting really close to putting that behind me.  Now Deron Martin's (admittedly well orchestrated) frame job of me stealing a library book I have yet to address.  Im going to make that a big part of my 50s.  Actually I think that could be decided if we could just play a little one on one tennis-ball baseball cricket-style like we used to in your parents driveway I might be ok.  Hope everyone is well and living the dream (course, many of you wont see this message untill 2025, long after Hillary Clintons famous but underwhelming presidency).  Go Rams!

Marta Lowe (Aronson)

NTHS Friends,

First, in the midst of this continuing pandemic, I hope you are well, however wellness is defined 13 months in . . .

I read this article this morning and felt moved to reach out to the advisor of the North Thurston Public Schools Black Student Union Coalition. I am sharing with you in case you were not aware and are similarly moved. In a world with so much need, it can be hard to know where kind words or a donation will make a difference - this story felt very close to home. If you are in touch with other alumni you think might want to show support, please share.

No need at all to reply - I can imagine how busy you all are. Sending my best to you all, and hoping for better times to come, regardless!

Hello Ms. Fappiano,

I read with anger and deep sadness of the racist assault on student leaders during the NTPS BSU Coalition meeting on self-care and mental health practices.  Following weeks full of publicized violence against Black/African Americans, to learn that these students were subjected to a racist assault when trying to find ways to heal from such trauma is devastating. I can only imagine the impact it had on them.

I graduated from NTHS in 1989. As an alumna, I want to support the efforts of NTHS and NTPS to create truly safe and inclusive learning environments, especially for students of color. We won’t achieve education equity without it, and equity is exactly what we owe to these students.

To show our support for the students of the NTPS BSU Coalition, my family and I would like to make a donation in the name of the Coalition to the nonprofit of their choice in support of mental health in communities of color. We are also happy to choose an organization and follow up once the donation is made if that’s easier. If there is an alternate way to show support the Coalition would appreciate more, we welcome suggestions.

Mostly, we want the students that comprise the Coalition to know we condemn in the strongest terms the assault on their efforts. We value their presence in NTPS, as well their work, and sincerely hope it continues.

In appreciation and support,

Marta Lowe (NTHS Class of 1989)

Erica Cooper

Hello Marta!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. If the Olympian covered it, I missed it. Simply awful. It has been hard enough for groups like BSU and Pizza Klatch to create a safe space for students without this kind of violation.

f you find out more information regarding donations, let us know.  I'd be happy to donate directly to their group to spend on anything they want or need.

If you don't hear anything, I have some connections to Courtney Schrieve and may be able to get in touch with her.

Thanks so much, Erica. I will let you know what I hear, if anything. If I don't hear anything I'll let you know that, too, and we can work other angles.

All the best,

Marta
