i'll chip in a donation for the forum. i know it's hard for u'all at the tanks and the stores, but as a trucker my tanks are 300 gallons and we fill up 2 - 3 times a week. remember , u'd be hungry, homeless and naked if it weren't for the trucks. i just want some subsidies like the farmers or tax breaks like the big corporations. i really wonder what we've gotten our kids into?
you got me laughin' Brendhan ...find the positives, lets see, protein diet, huddling together for warmth, no clothes = easier access!!!! HAHAHAHA i don't think anyone wants to see me naked. u be da sexy one
hey Sherry, we were all talking to Molly a few weeks ago about that. I know diesel is expensive, but my VW Jetta TDI averages about 47mpg and the motor is rated for 300,000. I don't know the life span of the hybrids. You can also convert the diesels to run on almost anything. I know a guy who uses vegetable oil and is averaging $.85 per gallon. Please say "hi" to Ron and John for me
Chris- I'm paying alot for Diesel too. We're trying to convert our trucks that are sales vehicles into hybrid cars. What we're trying to do is go green. Gas is just ridiculous and all the surcharges we keep getting from tractor and trailers that are delivering things to us. I understand why they have to charge these surcharges. Like one truck driver told me the other day, He's barely getting by. We think this is awide awakening for everyone. I was in Jamica last month and they pay $6.99 a gallon. They think the American people need to stop whining.
Seriously, the most green thing you can do is drive your current vehicle until it vaporizes. Producing a new car (any new car, but especially hybrids because of their not very envrionmentally friendly batteries) is much harder on the environment than continuing to drive your current car for another 5 years or more...
The choice of cars in my driveway- A Cheverlet Surburban or a Dodge 1500 with a Hemi. I'm not to green. My dad bought a Prius and is filling up every 3 weeks. He is averaging 54 mpg. That's alot better then 13mpg.
now I have the vehicles I want, I just have to make them last til I'm dead!!!!!!! the poor F250 has to sit there unless we can afford to play or it has to earn its keep. i guess because of what i do, i've always looked at vehicles as long term investments, take care of them because they'll take care of you. Sherry, do you all do anything w/ Greenleaf out of Tarboro, NC?
I too would like to contribute some of Joe Mullin's money to keep a forum site going.
As for gas, I either ride my motorcycle or company car, and that comes with a corporate gas card. I dont abuse it or anything but I'm surely lucky.
But yeah, most other countries have been paying these prices and higer for quite some time. I've been seeing these teeny tiny , itsy bitsy, gas effecient cars lately and it reminds me of the cars you see putzing around in european countries. I'll admit that I own an SUV, but in some sense, maybe it's a good thing to see the popularity of SUV's dropping simply because of economics. Should we really be driving vehicles that get 13mpg? And by that, I mean on a broad scale that America does. There have been far too many HUGE vehicles on the road in this country for quite sometime.....even when there isn't alot of snow on the ground.
No, Is that a mulch company? All the companies we deal with are in Maryland, West Virginia, PA & VA. It sounds funny when I say I love my truck. I won't get rid of it. Are you and Kim coming to the class reunion? I loved Kim's profile. She has so much talent.
You said it right. We feel that whatever we can do to start helping the economy is still not enough. If we all had smart vehicles, we wouldn't have any problems or should I say not so many problems. We just decided to buy a Prius and we're looking at a couple Toyata Yaris or a Toyota Matrix. Enough about cars. I enjoy the pot stories. Never done it but will do before I die. Keep the stories coming.
sherry, i know what you mean. i'm happiest out joyridin' in my p/u. guys dig girls who like trucks! :) yeah, we're both coming. she's hilarious! called me from DC rush hour traffic to tell me why my/hers logo was better than other trucks
sherry- i've never tried pot either but if i can get some i will contact you and share it with you. it seems we may be the only 2 from class of 88 who hasn't tried it.
Me too! I would love to try to drive a fire truck or a tractor and trailer. The guys laugh at me when I'm in the skidsteer. As for the pot, I'm not old enough yet. We have friends who want to bring us to Amstredam. Within a couple of years I'll be ready. Medical reasons might allow me and then I won't have to worry about Amy arresting me and my husband. The kids aren't ready to be orphans. They almost became one when a fish attacked me in Haiti a month ago. I warn everyone to watch out for 4' sucking fishes. They hurt and put alot of hickes on you. Thank god for the life jacket.
Chris, your 15 minutes away from me. I'm near Hillsboro. I'm not going to make the reunion. I'm leaving for Bermuda on the 15th. I want to see everybody. I'm trying to re-arrange and leave on the 16th. Its our 15th anniversary and my parents 40th. Like Wayne says, theres nothing like a girl that drives a Hemi.
Keith- Please be careful with your motorcycle. My father in- law wrecked his Harley five weeks ago. He has at least a year of recovery. It's our SUV's that always seem to hit the motorcycles.
Sherry, I'm extremely careful on my Harley....with every aspect except the non-DoT rated skull cap :)
A few years back I went on a ride to NC with a buddy, my father and his neighbor and witnessed my dad's neighbor wreck and he later died in the hospitol.
I'm always prepared to either brake or gas it really hard at every intersection I come to. I've concluded that if I ever die on my Harley, well, I can think of alot worse ways to die.
As for the 4' sucking fish, tell me more...and their exact location please :D
