Marguerite Opt Crenshaw, 91, of Athens, GA passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014.
A native of Anderson County, SC, Mrs. Crenshaw was the daughter of the late Richard Allen Opt and Chessie Brooks Opt and was preceded in death by her husband, Clyas Lee Crenshaw, son, Allen Hamilton Crenshaw, and granddaughter, Sherry Suzanne Williams. She taught at Pendleton High School from 1943-1949 and at Oglethorpe High School from 1967 until her retirement in 1984. Mrs. Crenshaw gave abundantly of her time to her family and the community. She was an active member of Athens First United Methodist Church and Circle 7. She volunteered her time to Athens Regional Medical Center as a "Pink Lady", meals on wheels, and the soup kitchen. Mrs. Crenshaw belonged to a bridge group, craft group, and loved to play dominos with her dear friends every other Wednesday. She had a positive outlook on life and had an uplifting spirit.
Survivors include daughter Susan Crenshaw Hill and husband, George Hill Jr; son, George Howard Crenshaw; three grandchildren, Tracy Crenshaw, Hayley Crenshaw Jordan, and George Kelly Hill III.
Funeral services will be held 3PM Sunday, June 8th at Athens First United Methodist Church with Reverends Chuck Hodges and Martha Aenchbacher officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Saturday, June 7th at Bernstein Funeral Home.
Clayton Bryant, Ray Duree, Taft Osborne, George Hill Jr, George Hill III, and George Howard Crenshaw will serve as pallbearers.
