Haunted House Update:

Saturday, November 1, 2008

We are meeting at Bennigan's in NLR at 6:15. We will carpool to the haunted house and should be there between 6:30 to 6:45.

After the haunted house we will eat dinner at Bennigan's and walk over to Bogie's for adult beverages, music and dancing. Some of you may want to go over to the Vampire's Ball, see the ad above this post.

Anyone that wants to meet us and go is welcome. You can join us at any point during the night, as some of you may not be into scary.

Remember: The Drifter's Haunted House is a fund raiser so all donations are appreciated.

I got an email from Amy Mitchell Hargrove yesterday. She wanted me to let everyone know how she is doing. I am posting the email:

Hey! It went well, except for the fact that I woke up in the middle of it . .. they had not sedated me enough. I'll bet that anesthesiologist got his butt chewed out! Somehow during that time I guess I fought against all the stuff they had me hooked up to and bruised my face and my throat/esophogus . . . not a pretty sight, huh? Anyway, I'm still really tired from everything but am hopeful this is the last one I'll have to have for a VERY LONG TIME!! Thanks for asking! I am hopeful this one did the trick but it is something that relieves itself with time, so maybe after a couple of weeks the pain will resolve. Tell everyone thanks for the prayers and support. Scariest part was waking up in the middle of it. I've heard of it happening to other people and the scariness of it all, and it is true !!!!
Amy

The haunted house was a blast. I haven't been to one in over 20 years. Big John, you guys did a great job! The room with the fog and strobes and the unexpected ghost was awesome!!!! That was a really cool effect. Everyone had fun. April's son wanted to be the first one in until we actually went in, then he got in the middle of the pack. April said he was still talking about it when she took him home. I didn't know women could squeeze your hand so tight until I went through the haunted house, man I think I may have some crushed bones in my hands. We did make it out alive, no one was left behind and all of our limbs are intact.

Everyone that didn't make it. You missed a really great haunted house. So be sure you go next year, it will keep you young, plus it will keep your blood flowing.

John, tell all the Drifters that our group really enjoyed the thrills and chills. Hopefully next year we can get more people from the Class of 83 to go, instead of being fraidy cats and staying home.

Hello everyone! I have to confess I have not even looked at this site in well quite some time. I see some of you guy's are staying in contact... I'm impressed! Mike, Rayburn and Keith, It's fun getting e-mails from you guy's and hearing whats going on from time to time. It's hunting time yea! Rayburn, I put the smoke on a hog and slick head with my bow but no buck yet. We let ALL the bucks walk on 750 acres last year to give them some growing time and to increase the numbers. It worked. We have been selective for years but one year of letting them all walk has really made a defference. Shane and I had a romantic vacation scuba diving Bonaire ths past October, man does she look HOT in a wet suite! I cant wait to go back and do it again! Shane, my Mom and kids and I went hunting this weekend, it was fun watching her check out her check out the deer as they surrounded us. Sawman whacked one on the youth hunt, he is selective, he picks out the ones that look tasty?! Anyway it's good to see all you guy's staying in touch, As it quickly comes upon on us, I would like to wish all of the class a great holliday season and be safe!

Dear John, A HUGE thank you to you and the Drifter's. My uncle Larry is challenged and he is a blessing. Again, Thank You! If you have any other fund raisers, please post them. We would love to support your efforts. Incidently, the haunted house was the best that my almost 12 year old son has experienced and we have visited a lot. This was the only one that actully had an element of surprise. He loved the white fog room, the coffin exit, and the, "I smell the IRS". He is still talking about it. It was a great time. Thanks again.

Hey everyone .. I just sent Gina Niks new address. I have had a long month, not being able to send him care packages has left me confused and bored. I love sending him packages and knowing how excited he is to get stuff. They moved his platoon, so until they physically moved, no packages. For an entire month!

He loves energy bars, really loves the Clif brand bars and prefers the fruit nuts ones. He isn't big on chocolate, mainly because it doesn't stand up to the temperatures over there. He loves the flavored water mixes and loves grape koolaide. He loves the cheese wiz in a can, the kind you squirt on crackers .. and loves the parmesan/basil wheat thin crackers. He loves beef jerky, any kind .. chews a lot of gum, mainly cinnamon stuff. As far as magazine, he loves anything to do with import cars and bmx bikes. He is pretty easy to send stuff too, as he is happy to get packages and shares with his platoon mates.

John... bite me .. sounds like a challenge .. you do remember I will hopefully be through that way sometime in December, don't you? I dont' forget things, so beware. You won't recognize me now .. my hair is at the short, punk rockish kind of length. Look out!

Elizabeth,....Thank you ...However it is not a toy drive..Our organization gets the residents wish lists, letters to Santa, and buys all that they wish for..Thus the reason for our fund raisers throughout the year..Last year we spent a little over 4000.00 to make sure they got what they wished for...

However...we are also involved with Arkansas Bikers Aiming Towards Education (A.B.A.T.E.) TOY DRIVE...
We collect NEW toys to be donated to the USMC Toys For Tots Drive held the first weekend in December...SO we do have a place to go with them.....

Also...For the ""MISFIT TOYS or Slightly Used toys...we do have another place to go with them....

So ya see...no matter what ya got, we can help ya with it....

CINDY....Uhhhh Bite ME!!!! You will forget by the time you get back down here...lol...ya know your getting older these days...lol

This season is one of the best- football, the fair, Halloween, and next Thanksgiving with all the trimmings. yeah. :)
Happy Veterans Day(11th) and Thanksgiving Day(27th) to all of you.

Since tomorrow is Veterans Day, I wanted to share with with our class:

Tribute to Veterans/(POW and MIA Table Presentation)

As you enter the dining room this evening, you may have noticed a small table set in a position of Honor. This table symbolically represents members of our serves who are missing from our midst, those we call brothers and sisters. Classified as prisoners of war and missing in action.

The table is set for only one, which symbolizes the prisoner's lonely struggle against their oppressors...

The tablecloth is white, representing the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call to arms...

A single red rose symbolizes the families and loved ones who keep the faith awaiting their return...

A single slice of Lemon is placed on the table to remind us of their bitter fate...

There is salt on the plate to symbolize the families' tears as they wait...

The glass is empty, they can not be with us tonight to toast...

The chair is empty, they are not here with us tonight...

Remember, all of us who served and called them comrades, they were Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen. We depended upon them for their might. Surely, they have not forgotten you.

The white candle's flame is symbolic of their presence in our hearts.

Let its light shine as a beacon of our resolve never to let them be forgotten.

This tribute was provided by a fellow co-worker, and she's serves in the Army Reserves, too.

From one Federal Employee to those who served and are serving in the Armed Forces, I salute and pray for you! God Bless you all! Caroline

We can never truly repay our veterans for their heroism, but we can, and must, remember it. Not just for the sake of honoring the fallen, but for the sake of the millions of people on our planet and the current generation of who have never had to endure the horrors of war, thanks to their sacrifices.

November 11 is the most significant national event of the year, for without Veterans Day or rather without the soldiers who gave us cause to create Veterans Day we might not be celebrating the other national holidays we enjoy. We might not have reason to celebrate anything at all.

Veterans Day is one of our country's most important and solemn rituals, an event that pays tribute to those who died in defense of our freedoms, and the surviving veterans who continue to be haunted by the memories of war. It is the duty of every American to respect and honor the contributions of our soldiers.

So this Veterans Day, I believe all of us should do two things: we should pay our respects to the thousands of soldiers who fight for freedom, and then we should look for ways to ensure that one day, Those who gave their ALL will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. It is the only meaningful way to pay the debt we owe our veterans.

I just wanted to say thanks to you also Caroline & Big John also for That! Just to let our classmates know also in honor of Veterans Day! I keep in touch with one of our soldiers on a regular basis! Keith Evans. I talk to him regularly from Afghanastain, he calls me and we IM back & forth just about every night. He is doing great he has told me to tell everyone thanks for all the e-mails & prayers..He can't wait to get home.. When he gets in around August, he would like to do something with all of us,so We must do a big Lions night out.. So I will keep everyone posted as to when that will be..But just remember to keep Keith in your prayers as he is fighting for us at this time..

Keith looks great I have seen him on web cam he looks like his same old self he hasn't changed a bit.. But do take the time in your day to remember all the soldiers today, as they are out defending our country on this day, & of course all the past soldiers, that have fallen..

Did anyone see Crossroads on CMT last night with Def Leopard and Taylor Swift?

11/12/08 10:03 PM #798

John Big John Cohen

I spent my evening writing to those in the service telling them how much we all appreciate they and their families sacrafices....I then spent the rest of the evening writing letters to VIETNAM VETERANS Welcoming them home, apologizing that they were never given the heroes welcome that they deserved, but trust in me when I say.....***THEY WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN****....

Well Josh Oliver and the Union Christian Eagles are out of the playoff's after the first round. A summary; Opening drive Eagles score. Second Possession Quarterback, Flashpolar down with hamstring. Eagles leading at the end of 3rd Qtr. Running back Josh Oliver goes down with knee injury. Marvel mustangs next possession score 20 to 13 favor of Mustangs. This would be the final score.
