I am blessed to be able to still do the things I love with the people I love. After graduation from NLRHS I attended the University of Central Arkansas (State College of Arkansas then) on a tuba scholarship. I graduated in 1974 with a BSE degree in teaching secondary English and Social Studies. I worked at Jacksonville High School as an English teacher for 11 years, the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative in Pine Bluff as a Specialist for Gifted Education for 13 years and then the Pulaski County Special School District as Director of Talented and Gifted and Advanced Placement Programs for 7 years. I retired in 2005 and have been an independent education consultant for the past 8 years, 5 of which have been with JBHM Education Group, in which I am a school performance specialist. I mentor principals and teachers in failing schools and help them change the culture of their school into one of success for all students. Music has always been important to me and I continue to play in multiple bands, which are shamelessly promoted on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/davis.hendricks.

I have three lovely children, a beautiful and amazing wife for 32 years, and am looking forward to the next adventure in this life.

School Story:

My memories of NLRHS are some of the best of what has been a blessed life. I was a short-haired hippy who had friends in just about every group in school and enjoyed those relationships and the adventures they produced. I was an under-achiever who didn't apply himself until my senior year, in which I had to work hard to salvage a 3.0 gradepoint. Fortunately, my music experience under J. Raymond Brandon and Ron Bryant landed me a tuba scholarship, which paid for my college education and provided rich memories of the many musical friends the band brought to me, some of whom I play music with even today (David Seago.) Memories that really stand out are marching and playing at football games, being in the cast of "Lather" and being branded a communist by the principal for participating. (Thanks, Mr. Burnett!) "Oklahoma" was another production that I remember, mainly because of the many conversations at rehearsals with a young lady I fancied from afar. I cherish my high school years and am blessed to still have some of those special people around!
