Sue Robinson

After graduating from OHS and Bethel University, I taught English as a Second Language in Japan for 3 1/2 years. My next career was in international marketing in Silicon Valley for about 15 years. Then came my best job ever -- I moved to Michigan were my sister and brother-in-law were resident doctors, and I was nanny to my goddaughter for 2 1/2 years (she's 14 now); the pay was low and my sister graduated...(LOL)...so when they moved to Sedona, AZ, and I returned to college in Flagstaff, where I got my M.S. in speech-language pathology at Northern Arizona University. I worked on the Navajo Reservation as a SLP at Tuba City Hospital for several years, and then in Sedona, AZ. In 2019 I married Bob Gallagher and we live in Westfield, NJ.

I enjoy golfing, hiking, biking, skiing, movies, reading, gardening. I love travel -- in the US and other countries.

The high school experience that made the biggest impact on me was being an American Field Service (AFS) exchange student for a year (1975-1976). I lived and went to school in a remote province, San Juan, Argentina, where not many spoke English, so I had to learn Spanish. I learned so much about another culture and language, and discovered how fortunate we were at Orono and in Minnesota. I came back from Argentina in February, the day before the SATs, and was very tan (it was summer in South America). I was trying to remember English vocabulary and bombed the tests; some classmate said "Hello" and asked if I'd been on vacation in Hawaii. (No. Hmmm...I guess I wasn't that memorable.)

My family lived on Lake Independence, and Sheryl Meyer was my neighbor since 6th grade. We went to Bethel University together; after graduation in the summer of 1980, I was a bridesmaid in her wedding - marriage to John Ducharme. Since I've lived in other states since 1985, I only visit MN occasionally. I still love MN, and miss friends and family. Sometimes I tell friends/colleagues, "You can take the girl out of MN, but you can't take MN out of the girl."
