Mr Murphy!!!!

I was a sharp woman once... I think it was a Tuesday...

Pam - I know about the missing Crusader Knight, too!! :::wink,wink,nod,nod,mums-the-word::: I go on record to say I had NOTHING to do with it - except maybe knowing too much about it. I know where it was hidden - for a time, anyway. Kevin claims to know, too. Hmmm...

Aw... I was fond of Mr Labanaris, too! Those of us who went on the German exchange trips were told that we were responsible to work out with our other teachers any make-up or extra credit work they would require, since we were gonna be gone for more than a month. All of my teachers were cool and kept it simple enough: whichever English teacher I had at the time assigned me to read Julius Ceasar; Mrs Hartmann requested a daily journal; for History, I remember just having to keep up with reading the textbook and answering the questions at the end of each assigned chapter. Mr Labanaris assigned a several-paged report on the brain. Actually, I think I chose the brain as the topic. When I turned in my report the day I returned to school after the trip, Mr Labanaris gave me an A on the spot because he was so surprised that I had actually done the assignment. No one else had!

Another time, Mr Labanaris was in the midst of explaining on the board how soap works on the molecular level when the bell rang. The class rather rudely got up and left while he was in midsentence. He started to put down the chalk, but we (Leah, did you take Biology with me? ...or maybe it was Monique Martel, but I was standing there with someone!) asked him to finish ("Don't leave us hangin'!). I was truly interested and felt badly for him when everyone just walked out on him. To this day, I think of him fondly when I use soap!

I have a few favorite teachers..Mr. Valade for teaching me so much and making it interesting (I kicked ass in Trivial Pursuit), Mr. Collins..so encouraging when I had a tough first quarter and finally Mr. Samara. My best memory of Mr. Samara is that he got called to the office and we all turned our seats facing the back of the class. He came back..never skipped a beat..and started teaching from the back of the class!
And the missing Crusader..don't remember.

OMG...just had a horrible thought...

30 years from now, are my students going to be discussing me on a cyber message forum? I can only hope that they don't hate me too much AND remember me teaching them something! Yikes.

Mr. Pappas and Mr. Samara are at the top of my list. I had Mr. Pappas for homeroom. He was always smiling and fun, but one day, one of the boys swore in front of the girls (not even swore AT but swore in front of) and he went ballistic! He ripped him apart for being vulgar in front of women! Go Mr. Pappas...chivalry is a great thing. I love that! (Yes, RIP Pappy...we miss you!)

I found Mr. Samara's teaching to be so interesting that I didn't have to study for his tests and still got A's (They were probably easy, but let's pretend they weren't). Of course, it could have been because I love psychology, but I still give him all the credit.

Make it a great day!

Ev--

That was Mr. Patrick (Pat) Murphy, Junior year, and he was the hottest thing to hit MMHS in years. Had an interest in martial arts as well as history and he was gorgeous. The first and pretty much only teacher to ever get me to have the slightest interest in history. Also, a decision maker in me deciding to teach American Sign Language classes later in my career.

Hey - I didnt send my card yet but am buying the airline tix right this second.

I'll be there!!

Glenn Lianos, You are terrible. (But I am planning on wearing a suit of armor to the reunion)

Leah!!!!! Yeah!!! (Now add your name to the Apollo list and I’ll say Yeah! again.)

Ev & Diane Yeah!!!!

Pam & Maura- I’ll be thinking about you all day. Loved your phone message. You are so funny, girl.

Laura Kohut (Douglass)

Pam, good luck tomorrow. You know all of us will be sending you good karma in one form or another and wishing your daughter a skilled medical team and quick recovery. I will be looking for your update with crossed fingers.

Ah, the lost crusader. On penalty of death, I have been sworn to secrecy.

Glad to see the list growing for the pre-reunion Apollo night. I think we're going to do a fixed price special menu for our group to make it easier (and cheaper!). Details to follow. Remember, appetizers and the 1st round of drinks is on me. If anyone wants to come out earlier than 7pm you are welcome to come over my house first. Would love to have a pre-party for the pre-reunion dinner!

Hmmm don't recall a missing knight. I must have been burning toilet paper in the woods. lol

Mr. Samara... I remember him walking into class with a six pack of diet pepsi (he called it D.P.) He was a great teacher. My daughter had him also and she graduated in 2000.

My son graduated in 2006 and he had Ms. Gilbert and Mrs. Sharma. amazing they are still there.

Fav teachers: Samara; Messier; Valade and does anyone rember the teacher that was there for only our freshman year in english? He was portly and looked like Wolfman Jack. He told a story about how he was going across a bridge into LA and this guy next to him had pointy ears on. It was Leonard Nimoy on his way to audition for Star Trek....Anyone?

Cool story Scott. Don't remember that teacher. I think I had Mrs. McDonough that year.

Just to CLARIFY here: nothing HAPPENED in the darkroom, geez! I'm just saying it was awkward in a kinda dangerous way...

I, like every other sensible girl, was in love with Mr. Menswar. I’m pretty certain he returned my feelings (this is a tragic love story) because he wrote in my yearbook (And I quote) “I enjoyed having you in class immensely.” (Sadly, he did not mean this in the biblical sense. However, he went on to add,) “I wish nothing but the ultimate for you in all you do. May the best days of your past, be the worst of your future." (Here’s where it gets juicy) "Take care. God bless! I’ll miss you. T Menswar"

Something weird just happened... I was in the midst of composing this message and it vanished! I don't think I hit submit since it didn't appear on the forum, but it must be out there somewhere. Like I said, weird... If it does show up, my apologies for the redundancy.

Melissa Turner: Due to sitter logistics, it most likely will just be me on the Apollo Grill pilgrimage. Ron said that he'd sit out the roadtrip on Friday so that I can go. Then we'll only need to arrange a sitter for Isaac on Saturday. And hopefully, if her travel arrangements work out, I'll bring Leah Garlichs with me to the Apollo Grill!

Pam Taber: Please gently nudge - or shove, if necessary - John Normand into signing onto this site and forum and come to the reunion! Meanwhile, let me have a go at Charlotte Hybsch with some persuasive nudging! Ask her if I can have her contact info, or you can give her mine. I'd love to hear from her!

And you and your daughter are in our prayers. In fact, I offered her - & you - in our prayer requests at my Bible study group this morning. So there's about a dozen other 'Church Ladies' from Ste Marie praying for tomorrow's surgery, your daughter, etc.

Lastly, Pam, we weren't at the Highland Games itself, but ran into a few attendees last weekend! We stayed at the Indian Head Resort in Lincoln Sunday thru Tuesday, celebrating our anniversary and my birthday by taking our 6-yr-old, Isaac, to Clark's Trading Post, Lost River, and a hike on Cannon Mtn. There were a few rowdy Game attendees in full kilt attire at the next table at dinner Sunday night, who kept apologizing for their language in front of Isaac. It was kinda funny hearing them struggle to censor themselves. ("Shut up, you dumb@$$! There's a little boy sitting at the next friggin' table!" "Oh, $h*t! Sorry, ma'am.") Well, at least they tried! ;-}

Favorite teachers? Mr. Mirabile of course...did I have any others? How can I remember everything up til 8th grade then draw a blank for Freshman to Senior year of high school? Well, actually I think I know the answer to that - mostly taking place at Ev's house and Pam's barn, and driving around playing England, hanging out at the airport and the Elysian Fields, and augmenting my collection of street signs, milk crates, and orange highway cones. Does anyone else ever marvel that they aren't in jail, or is that just me?

It's me, too, Leah! We were just plain, damn lucky at what we got away with!
