My respect and gratitude to all who will serve, are currently serving, and have served our country for our freedom. My brother-in law was stationed in Afganistan and we were on pins and needles the whole year. He's a Brigade Command Seargent Major in the U.S. Army. My cousin, Marc, just completed his second tour of duty in Iraq as a 2nd Lieutenant in the USMC. The small bit of comfort we did get was periodically being able to communicate on-line with them. Please be assured that all of your loved ones will be held in high esteem and prayed for on a daily basis. Please give them our sincere and heartfelt thanks.

As all of you have prayed for my little Maura I will pray for all of your loved ones serving our country so proudly and bravely! My heart always goes out to those families so affected by this terrible war going on. May God bless them all!

Maura's cast has to stay on for another two weeks! Swallow study again on Mon. and if she is still not safe eating by mouth then she will be discharged with a feeding tube. Once she is able to sit upright again once the cast is off another swallow evaluation will be done and if she doesn't do well a G-tube will need to be placed as a more permanent way of feeding her. This will be our last choice but if neccessary it is better than her getting food and fluid into her lungs and eventually destroying them permanently. Please pray she will eventually be able to eat by mouth again and sooner than later.

God Bless All Of Our Brave Children!!!

My thoughts are with all of you with loved ones serving for all of us around the world. They are a special breed and deserve the best.

Okay-New topic. It's almost Halloween, the BEST holiday ever! No presents to buy, no boring family obligations (unless you count trick or treat boring!). This year it falls on a Saturday so I just know some of you must be going to a party. I'd love to hear about some costumes from this crowd! Me? We are doing a reality TV theme, so I am going as Brett Michaels "Rock of Love Easthampton" complete with blow up doll (had to do something with it!) and my son is going as a 12 year old white version of Flav-a-flav. He's calling himself "Flav-a-flav the otha' flava". I have disowned my daughter as she has PURCHASED a costume (store bought costume?!? THAT is unheard of!). I will reclaim her after Halloween.

So folks, what are you doing for the big holiday? How about your kids/grandkids? Can't wait to see the photos in a few weeks!

Thanks Melissa, my wife and I are very proud of him. Thanks to all who are praying for our men and women serving in the armed forces. The military is very near and dear to me as I have served over 24 years of my life in the military.

Count Chuck and I in for breakfast on the 8th. Thanks to all those that are defending our freedom and to those that have served in the past. Our son leaves for Navy boot camp on June 8, 2010. I am very proud of him for this decision.

Marie, if your boy is Navy, he has a good chance of coming our way at some point in his career. Balboa is in San Diego. Given that the USMC is part of the Navy, my son spent a pretty good portion of his recovery at Balboa hospital before he was medically discharged.

If it is sooner rather than later (in his career) there might be some comfort in knowing a few locals when he gets here. If that is the case, we will hook him up! Getting off base on weekends is a good way of getting out of weekend duty. The only way to do that economically is knowing the locals.

At first he will have no interest in meeting your old classmate but you can dangle our squids as bait. We have fed so many Marines, we should be recieving combat pay. We will hardly notice one more hungry serviceman in our House d'Chaos.

I must comment that it warms my heart to read what warm, generous and compassionate classmates we have. God bless all of you!

Pam ~ what a long road for yourself and Maura. Thank you for continuously updating us. Please know that you both continue to be in our hearts and prayers. I hope you can come home sooner rather than later and that Maura will not need a permanent feeding tube. Hugs & kisses to both of you!

I have a costume party to attend on the 25th...any ideas (that aren't too much work)?

I agree wholeheartedly with Michelle... we do have a very caring group here. I've found that I keep all of you in my thoughts on a regular basis... to all of you with family service members, I admire and appreciate their choices and will keep them in my prayers. Brave people breed brave people, so all of you have my thanks as well...

Pam: I've been thinking about your little sweetie, Maura, as well... you are fighting the good fight for her on a daily basis... stay strong; she'll pull through with flying colors in the end. With your strength and love behind her, I have no doubt.

Lisa Guillemette (Gioacchini)

My thoughts and prayers also go out to all our service men and women who are fighting for our freedom. God bless each and every one of them, especially those who have been injured or lost their lives! Their bravery makes me so proud to be an American!

Our son is a marine stationed in Okinawa, Japan, in a non-deployable unit, so you can imagine how grateful we are to have him safe (well, for 2 years anyway..we hope)!

Pam, my prayers are with Maura, as well as for you and your family! I hope you are all home together soon!

And I'm in for a trip to NAPA...I went to Livermoor Valley for a wine tasting tour once and had a great time!

Glenn Lianos

To all of our service men and women...profound gratitude for their service and wishes for speedy and healthy return.

Pam: Hang in there...we are thinking of you and little Maura.

Lisa: My wife is from Livermore...they have great wineries there. My father in law used to make his own.

Laura: So far not much excitement to report. Kyra is going as Hermione from Harry Potter and Max is going as "puggie", who I am told id Betty Boop's dog. I keep trying to have Julian go as Darth Vader and the twins as Luke and Leia...but they won't CURSE THEM! The closest I got was Last year when they went as Apollo and Artemis...
(do you remember Dr Jaqueline Hyde? where's der serum?)

Halloween costume: One year I went as a cereal killer. I just stuck little boxes of cereal all over my lack shirt with fake knives sticking out of the boxes.

One time I was cousin it. It was easy to make but pretty time consuming.

Another time I wore a waitress outfit and roller skates and went as a car hop from the 50's.

And one time I wore a blue body suit with blue tights and put cotton around my head and feet and I was a q-tip (no one could figure it out until I told them)

All those were costumes I won prizes for at our office parties.

Laura, My two favorite Halloween costumes EVER... Glenn's half man and half woman. He danced with himself that night. And Spencer's scarecrow, which was being picked to pieces by fake crows. Spencer thought it was lame until he won several contests. Spencer's birthday is Halloween. Great Birthday! We usually decorate like it's Christmas (though too busy this year, plus we will be in Tokyo.) We've had some blowout parties too. I love Halloween!!!!

Carol Erlman (Phillips)

My personal favorite (besides all the fun with the kiddos)...

Hosting a huge Halloween party in which the invitations include "No Children Allowed" and "Costumes REQUIRED." Turns out, the people who otherwise would NOT have dressed up show up with the FUNNIEST (read: most disgusting/naughtiest/rolling on the floor hilarious) costumes! The pictures are PRICELESS!

No Halloween parties for us this year! I have never been good at being that creative when it comes to Halloween costumes. The best one I ever did was dressing like the "Carol Burnett Cleaning Lady" in my great grandmother's dress and pantaloons; wearing sk's and blackening some of my teeth; wearing a brown wig, hauling around a bucket, mop and broom! People didn't recognize me with the brown wig on! I did have fun with that costume for sure! Had some interesting Halloween parties up in my arents barn over the years though!

Looking forward to going home tomorrow and going to see my friend, Stephen's band play tomorrow night in Deerfield. Will hang out with Emily on Sun. and then back to Boston again Sun. night.

Maura will have another swallow study on Mon. and that will determine if she goes home with a feeding tube or not. Then we hope to go home finally on Mon.!! Cast needs to be on for another two weeks and then hopefully that will come off and when she is able to sit upright again she will have another swallow evaluation to determine if she can resume eating pureed foods with thickened liquids or if she will require a G-Tube for feeding to prevent another aspiration event damaging her lungs. Time will tell. We are hoping it doesn't come to that but as I have always said "it is what it is."

Have a good weekend everyone!

Just a thought ,how about a reunion in the U.K.
All of you who have children or relatives over seas are in my thoughts. Bless you all.

For anyone who is interested in something fun to do tonight, my friend, Stephen's band is playing at the "Lazy Lion" which is located in the center of Deerfield. They play music from the 60's/70's so you won't be dissapointed if you come! I am heading back to Manchester later this afternoon once my ex gets here to be with Maura. If anyone is interested in going give me a call at 361-5210. Hope to see some of you there!

We would love to come to the UK! I've been to some of Europe but have never made it there. My great-grandfather was from Manchester while my grandmother's parents came from Ireland. There's some Scotch in me, as well, though not literally... or, rather liquidly... at the moment...
;-}
Anyway, I've always wanted to visit the UK! Isaac, my 6yr old, is so into Harry Potter (as are his folks!) and Thomas the Tank Engine, we just might have to plan a trip "across the pond"!

Hello everyone,
Finally have a few minutes to play catch up with you all. Just got done making chocolate pumpkin lollipops for the kids for Halloween. What a long process. We have an all day party tomorrow at my sisters every year and all the neighbors drop by. Food galore and we laugh an awful lot.

Dana and I are planning to go to breakfast with everyone on Nov 8th. Will help the reunion withdrawl.

Joannie glad to see you made it back to England.
Thank you so much for spending time with us and talking with Katie and letting her know all about London. She will be leaving Jan 6th. I am counting the days as I will miss her terribly. Don't tell her.

Pam, Maura is always in my prayers.

Hope all is going well with everyone. Take care and keep in touch. Look foward to seeing some of you on November 8th.
Cathy

Pam, good luck on Monday with Maura's swallow exam. I'm sure however you get her home, it will be nice when it happens. If she needs the tube for now, so be it. Once she's sitting up and feeling better, that changes everything. As I've said before, she is lucky to have you.

I am always touched when I see young people in uniform, and am impressed with their choice to serve this great country. I will now also think of all of you who have sons, daughters, nephews, neices, etc. serving as well. It's great to see folks using this forum as a support group of sorts. We really do have so much in common.

Yep, Glenn's 1/2 man 1/2 woman costume, complete with 1/2 of a mustache, was a great one. So many great memories of marathon trick-or-treat nights with Glenn that ended up with LOTS of candy in a pillow case. Could be why I love the holiday so much. Nothing but good memories.

Melissa, can't wait to hear about Tokyo. Plan on posting photos when you return!
