Robert Howard

Hello folks, my wife and I had breakfast with Karen Dobrowski, her son Duncan, and Steve Hernandez this morning at the Red Blazer in Concord. We would like to do this again with any classmates that may be interested.

We are doing Breakfast again on Sunday Nov 8th 10:00am at the Red Blazer in Concord. We are extending an invitation to anyone who may be interested. If you are interested, please let me know so I may give them a heads up as to how many people would like to attend.

The breakfast is a buffet style all you can eat. Pancakes,Waffles, and omelets to order. Fresh fruit, danishes, pastries, bacon, sausage, ham, corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, and many more items.

If you leave there hungry, its your own fault. There is so much food (and it's all good). This is another good way to stay in touch with all your classmates we recently reconnected with.

Hope to see you there
Bob & Brenda Howard

Laura, My new fav is La Posta, Malbec. Funny how wine and cigars are such a good match.
Imagine that... Talk of booze from a class that has an empty six pack of Bud bottles in it's yearbook!
Never saw that coming!!!

Mini, I have been wondering where you’ve been. If we can't get Mohamed to come to the Reunion Mountain, we’ll just have to take the Reunion to Napa Valley. Two birds…One stone.

It would be great to see Jo. While she might not be interested in wineries (though she’s wasting perfectly good geography if she’s not) we can probably get her interested in a hike.

From your end, remember we have that tiny cottage and it has your name on it. I promise to stock it with a nice box of wine. Red or white, your choice.

Laura and Joe, I don’t know this…Malbec. (But it’s obvious we should meet). Once I finish my Box O’Cab, I’m going to find it. I try to learn something new every day.

If you have not tried a dry riesling you are missing out on fine drinking. THey are not always easy to find but worth the hunt. I also recommend torrontes(?) It's a citrusy white grape from Argentina.

Look for cava if you are into champagne. Most are from Spain and have a smaller, lighter bubble.

I'm with Laura on the Malbec. Maybe a wine tasting at my house in the Spring?

To back Bob up, the brunch buffet at the Blazer was excellent. They have a semi-private area in the back that we could request if we have a sufficient number of people... one way or another, we're going back Nov 8th! I hope some of the "locals" can join us!

Check out the menu at http://www.theredblazer.com/sunday.php
- the brunch runs from 8am to noon. It's definitely worth the trip!

"I miss all my friends already and have been scheming with the husband to escape to CA for a long weekend without the kids. Be warned, Glenn and Melissa!"

Bring it on Laura and Casey we're ready...Melissa has become a wild mixologist and Antonia can cook!

Anyone ever try Proseco(sp)..instead of champagne? We're hooked...Never had Riesling Kevin, thanks for the tip.

Riesling can be very sweet, Glen, so be careful to get a dry one. It's like a whole different wine from the sweeter, later version. Most sweeter versions are made for the American market. They leave the grapes on the vine longer and sometimes even into a light frost. It increases the sugar, I guess.

Glenn, you might remember that we serve a Prosecco at our wedding. It went better with the Mediterranean food served family style (plus the bottle matched the linens , it was gorgeous.)

We buy a case (when it goes on sale) to keep on hand for celebrations. We have celebrated a lot lately and are completely out.

Kevin, I love the idea of a wine tasting. Let’s do a pairing with Apz. Even out of towners can manage a nice cheese.

On the Riesling, you are probably right about the frost. In Canada, they make something called “Iced Wine” (which is a delicious, dessert kind of wine, that comes in smaller bottles and costs the earth) It is made from entirely handpicked grapes (thus the expense) after a frost. The entire grape freezes, except a tiny bit of nectar which is pressed to make this wine. It is extremely sweet, yet still not cloying. It is a wonderful surprise to offer after a meal and is perfect with a cheese course. If I can get hold of any, I’ll bring it to Kevin’s tasting.

Bob - Karen - Brunch sounds like fun! I'll have to check with Ron and our schedule. What time are you planning? Mass lets out at 10:30 for us...

While I enjoy champagne, I've never been a big wine fan. Could never get past the wine headache I usually get to care what sort of legs or nose it had. Any connoisseurs out there with advice? Otherwise, I guess it's martinis and cape cods for me! :::shrug:::

Ev,

A friend of mine gave up drinking red wine because of the headaches. She tried organic red wine and it did not give her the headache....she said organics do not have the amount of sulfites that nonorganic wines do...apparently it's added to speed fermentation. I've never tried organic wine, never had to...but she swears by it.

Linda Lemay (Wojceshonek)

Good to know Kathleen. Wine gives me headaches too. I'll try organic. Thanks.

As for brunch. If my calendar is clear I'm in. I've never been there but I love to try new places.

I want to go to Kevin's wine tasting! I could cut the cheese!

Evelyn, we were planning around 10:00AM. We might be able to move it a bit later but not too much as breakfast hours are 08:00AM to 12 noon.

We will keep you posted as to what the final time will be.

Hope to see you there

Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)

Thanks, Kathleen! Organic. I'll keep that in mind!

Bob - I haven't got my November schedule yet, but if I'm NOT the cantor at the 9:30 Mass, we may be able to make it for 10am. I should know at this Thursday night's rehearsal and will get back to you one way or the other by the weekend.

Glenn Lianos

Mary...why wait? Cut the cheese whenever you want. Don't wait for a special occaision.

Thanks Kevin I'll try dry...not into sweet at all.

Melissa I didn't know you served Proseco just knew it was good. We really love it.

How about the last grape squeezings? Anyone for Grappa, Rhaki, moonshine?

All this wine talk and I can't even have a glass being in the hospital with Maura!!! Torture I'm telling you!!

A trip to wine country sounds great to me! Will definitely need a good vacation after this entire ordeal with Maura. She had a minor aspiration event yesterday that set her back to the point of needing oxygen again at night when she's sleeping!! Then she was aspirating her pureed food and thickened liquids when she did her swallow study today. It doesn't help she's in a spica cast in a reclined position. So much for hoping to get out of here this week!! Please pray she is off oxygen 100% again soon and once her cast comes off (hopefully this week) she can eat and drink again like she could prior to her hip surgery Sept. 24'th.

Robert, would love to come to brunch in Nov. if everything is normal in my life again. Whatever normal is?? LOL Please mention it again closer to the date as I don't have my calendar here to mark it down.

Love your idea of a wine tasting in the Spring, Kevin! Did you ever do "Apple Fest" at your house last weekend?

10/20/09 04:05 PM #1459

Kevin Farley

Mary, you can cut the cheese at my house any time.

Forum people Can I ask a favor of you? My youngest brother has been deployed somewhere in the Middle East. Could you all say a prayer for his safe return. Thanks Richard

10/21/09 11:13 AM #1462

Melissa Turner

Richard, Thank you for your brother's service. I will add him to a very long list. My daughter and her husband are Linguists for the USMC. They ship out in February. I have to remind myself that the ship is safest in the harbor, but that’s not why we build the ship. It’s a cold comfort.

Richard: Done deal.

Mary Schunemann (Felton)

I pray for our service people every day. They are so brave and self-less and often taken for granted.
Thank you Richard and Melissa for your family's contribution. My son is with the USCG Reserve in Kuwait and is doing his deployment in relative safety. I can't imagine the worry about the folks in Iraq and especially Afghanistan right now.I think we must always support our brave men and women who have stepped up and volunteered to serve in our military. We owe them so much.
I hope all parties concerned come home safe!

10/21/09 12:39 PM #1465

Robert Howard

Richard, would that be Paul? I will pray for him and his safe return.

My step son is in Iraq right now with the 82nd airborne division. I can sympathize with you and your family.

Please thank Paul (from all of us)for his service to our great nation.

Wishing for a safe return of all our men and women serving in the armed forces.

Mary, I did not realize your son was in Kuwait. (Added to the prayer list.) My daughter and her husband’s orders are for Afghanistan. I worry, I worry, I worry.

Bob , 82nd airborne! Wow! You must be proud. I add my family’s thanks for his service.
