Thanks for the wonderful time last night. It was really a lot of fun visiting with everyone. You and Doug have a beautiful home.

I gotta say that I'm a little excited about the opportunity to see everyone and catch up. I have reached the plateau in my life where just sittin on the porch is not boring to me, but enjoyable. I guess it only makes good sense that nostalgia would go hand in hand with that. I appreciate that you all have gotten together to set this up and hope that everyone is able to come. I'm also jealous that I couldn't have been there to chat. Yall take care and call if you need anything from me. My direct number is 817 808-2308 and anyone can call anytime! Look forward to the visit!

PS, Hey to everyone individually that's responded. I cant' wait to talk to all of you!

If you haven't checked today, Mark Andrews has been added to the site ... we are getting great responses from everyone. Right now, it seems we are leaning more towards a cabin in the woods with a DJ serving BBQ with all the trimmings. Sounds fun ... Mark July 26th on your calendars and plan to be there to join in the fun! More info to follow!

Hi Everyone,

A few (lengthy) thoughts ~

If anyone has any contact with those that haven't updated their profile - please remind them to. I try to look at least daily & the updates seemed to be really slow after the initial day or two. (Especially those that are marked as coming to the re-union - they are bound to know about the site.)

I am hoping to get to come on the 26th - my vote is the hunting club.

Remember the fish fry & dance at the hunting club on Hwy??? Out Palestine way...(How could I forget the road name!?) Were there several fish fries or only one? I seem to remember several. Rusty & Terry Northcutt chaperoned... Anyway,One night after the dance Dalton & Robin McBride had a wreck & she broke her leg (badly). She was going to ride with him back to Aubrey then was supposed to be spending the night with me. A good night turned very weird, very quick.

Here are a few more funnies I've remembered since this site started the walk down memory lane.

Slave sale - "Baa, I feel clean! Baa, I feel clean"
Mr. ??? I can't remember his name.

Someone mentioned Coach Harris asking if we wanted to hire Bennie Goodman - he's my uncle Don as you may or may not know. I was so embarrased I wanted to crawl under the desk.

Dinner & the disco in Memphis for another of our Senior parties. Disco - Gag!!!

Terry, Johnny, Dalton, (really all of us at some time) saying "Dr Gist, I got a point 'off of' whoever" & they lost a point for the "off of."

On the bus to away basketball games - "Peanut Paul Almond Joy's got Nuts; Mounce don't" ? Grade 8th or 9th?

Joe Bennett dating a senior for 12-15 years so he could still go to the Prom. Speaking of the Bennetts - who wears blue eye shadow?

Ham sandwiches (deli quality though we didn't know it then) Chocolate milk, full access to my dad's store & free pool & pin ball after ball games or riding around town on the weekends.

Riding around down & congragating in parking lots! Is that still done down there in the sticks? If you tried that in St Louis the cops would be all over you in a minute. Especially now days.

Well, I am sure anyone with the patience to read this to this point is getting weary. (I get accused of writing "book length" emails at work) Harold is not feeling well & went to bed so I've had more time than usual & got carried away.

Add more comments & stories Everyone!

CE

Hello to all! Just a few quick updates ... I finally got in touch with Doug Bennett today. He assured me that he will be updating his profile and that he will attend the reunion. Still haven't found a few people and haven't heard from several. Any help you can offer will be appreciated in finding the missing people.

As you will notice on the classmates profile ... I have added a few people that went to school with us through the years. I know there are many more, but I am having problems finding addresses for many of them and have guessed at a few. Today, I sent "join us" cards to Gina Byrne Winchester and Gill Shillcutt, those two addresses were easily found. If there are others that you can think of, please let me know and I will be happy to contact anyone that you can remember.

Take care ... update your profiles ... add pictures ... and mark July 26th on your calendars! We are going to have a party - somewhere - location to be determined.

See ya soon!
Lynn

??? What happened to the hunting club idea???

06/08/08 09:38 PM #17

Lynn Billingsley (Gore)

It is still a great possibility. We have found that the food (being catered) and the music and expensive for some crazy reason. Right now, it will either be the hunting lodge or at my house. I have a huge porch and we may throw up a tent. I am checking on "friends" that might be interested in cooking for us on a grill rather than us having to use a caterer. We are trying to make things the least expensive we can but right now, we have zero money to work with and we have no idea how much we expect to collect. Hopefully, at least 1/4 of the money will go to the school as a donation from our class. That way, we are giving back to a good cause. Please don't let the location or the money stop you from coming. I am serious that I have room for you(and your husband) to stay at my house. I have working diligently to get all of the details out this week. Please plan to come. I'm counting on you.

After two meetings and much deliberation ... we have decided to finalize plans for our 30 year class reunion for the Lee Academy Class of 1978. We will be hosting our reunion on Saturday evening, August 2nd beginning with a tour of Lee Academy, followed by dinner. Then we will have a dance from 8:00-12:00 at the Marianna Country Club with a band.

The cost is $100 per person for the evening. Please mail your reservation to: Sue Thieme Colinger, 316 Andrews Drive, Marianna, AR 72360. We are inviting upper and lower classmen to the dance with a $10/surcharge requested at the door.

There will be a cash bar at the Country Club. A photographer will be on hand to take pictures with everyone receiving an 8x10 composite of the class.

Any extra money will be designated for a scholarship/endowment fund at Lee Academy.

I hope to see you all there!
Lynn

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. I have posted some pics on my profile page if you have a minute take a look see. My memory from school would have to be when Coach Raney threatened to give me and Annette boxing gloves because we argued all the time. Well, believe or not we actually work together 2 days a month and have to talk on the phone sometimes 20 times a day. Oh and yes she still threatens to whip me and I still tell her I can out run her.
See ya'll soon!

Gina Byrne (Winchester)

I hate that I will be missing the reunion. We will be in Dallas August 2nd, visiting my sister, Sylvia Byrne Bodell's family. Sylvia is interested in viewing the class reunion website. Is it ok for her to log on? Thanks Lynn for offering your home for me to have a place to stay during the reunion, but last minute plans for our visit to Dallas could only be done on that same weekend. If I'm ever in Marianna, I'll be sure to give you a call. If anyone is ever in Jonesboro, give me a call at 870-931-2465. We just bought a Harris 24 foot pontoon and enjoyed it for the first time on Greers Ferry Lake on Saturday, July 12, 2008 and if anyone is ever at the lake, give me a call. We might be there on the pontoon boat! Best wishes to everyone and keep in touch. Gina Byrne Winchester, July 13, 2008

Gina, certainly, anyone is welcome to visit and post to the website - I have found that former and current Lee Countians are very interested in our site, so have her post.

If your plans change, join us at the last minute and my home is always open. Don't tempt me to join you at the lake - I just may take you up on that. Ha!

Great to hear from you and have Sylvia email me. I would love to hear from her.

We need to find the remaining classmates. Where is Tim Crossno? Barbara Clay hasn't responded, or Linda Brady. Plus we need to begin thinking about finding our old teachers like Doctor Gist, Kalkbrenner, Rainey, Cranford, Reynolds, and anyone else you guys remember.

We only have a few weeks. We have to get busy. I have invitations to mail but wanted to make sure all plans were set before mailing them.

Brenda Jones McGraw called me this morning and gave me this website. What fun! Too bad I can't make it to the reunion this year. I would LOVE to catch up with all of you.

Well Lynn I'm curious how many have signed up for the reunion. It's going to be so much fun to catch up and just see how much, if any, everyone has changed. It's only a week now.

Not sure at this point how many to count on ... people are dropping off the list from the computer site everyday, not sure what is going on? Currently, we have 23 people signed up.

I hope that everyone had or has a safe trip home. Let's keep in touch through this web sight. We should make plans to get together more often.

Wow! What a great time we had. Even if I am way too old to stay out that late. It was so great to see everyone and get caught up and remember old times. Doc, Mrs. Cranford, and Thomas Allen all looked great. It was so good that they wanted to take time to attend.
I knew when we were in school we were all good friends and Saturday night just reinforced the fact that we still have that friendship. I know that not all classes are so fortunate. Thanks to you all!
Okay enough of the mush. Wish everyone could have been there. Let's do it again sooner.

Love to you all,
Leigh Ann

I totally agree - the Reunion was great - so good to see everyone! The only thing that would have been better is if we could have talked easier at the Country Club.

On the long trip home I wondered what my life would have been like if I had stayed in the Lee County area... Maybe I'll move home one day ~ (Notice I still call it home.)

Let's do try to keep in touch and get together more often. I would be interested in trying to make it down for Homecoming - please be sure to post the date just in case.

Ok - too long already...Great to see you all, keep in touch and POST PICTURES SOON!!!!

From the class of 1978 -our sympathies go out to Kim (Wooten) and Jim Jones this week in the loss of our beloved, Mr. Walter Wooten. After visiting with Kim, you truly feel as though Mr. Walter celebrated life for over 80 years. He was a good man and will be truly missed by many family members and friends. Please keep Ms. Violet, Jim and Kim and family in your prayers. We all loved him.
