Bellingham, Washington - Shirley Ann "Homie G" Maytag was born on July 31, 1944 in Marshalltown Iowa. Shirley passed away on April 13, 2024 at the age of 79 in Bellingham, Washington surrounded by her family and friends.
Shirley is joining her parents, Kermit Maytag and Lois Holmes; her younger sister, Connie Rogers; and her beloved dog, Kris Kringle, who got his namesake from her love of Christmas. Shirley is survived by her elder sister, Carol Christine; her children, Kenny Roberts and Donna Nygren; her granddaughters, Kerry, Aysha, and Kayla Nygren; and many nieces and nephews.
Family was the most important part of Shirley's life. She loved her connections to her strong sisters and was proud of being an original Maytag, keeping her maiden name. She was a loving, capable and resourceful single mom, having bought a house on her own and created a home for her two children while filling it with hand-made creations. Shirley moved from Arizona to Bellingham when her first granddaughter was born, and spent the next 27 years giving and receiving an abundance of joy from her role as "Homie G." This title was well earned, as she made sure each year to also craft Christmas gifts for her neighbors and their kids, and built a fairy garden for all to enjoy as they passed by her home.
Shirley's family will be holding a celebration of life on June 2 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at 629 Old Samish Way. All are welcome to join in honoring the many blessings we have received from having Shirley in our lives. She was loved by many, and we will miss her dearly.
