Lonnie(Skip) Morrison was a neighbor of mine and later in life became a good friend of my brother, Rex Spooner. His mother had abandoned him as a baby and a friend of the mother raised him. He never knew his father. He was very skinny, bright red hair and lots of freckles with a heart of gold. After high school he got into some trouble hanging with the wrong crowd.
His parol officer, Mr. Wilke, helped him get a law degree. Skip married, had a daughter and was an attorney in Webster City, IA. He ran for county attorney unsuccessfully and took a motorcycle trip after the stress of the election process. That was when he was killed on his motorcycle.
A short life but I think a success story of someone who moved forward despite his circumstances. Everyone needs a little help sometimes.
