Gerald R. Smith, 54, of Mesquite, Texas, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999. 

  Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Oak Cliff Funeral Chapel, 222 E. Colorado Blvd., Dallas, Texas, with the Rev. Glenn Moore officiating.  Cremation services will follow.

  He was born on April 16, 1944, in Marshalltown to Soloman and Ruth (Haas) Smith.  He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1962.  He served in the Navy.

  He married Suzanne Rehder on April 13, 1972, in Marshalltown.  He was a machinist.

  Survivors include his wife Suzanne of Mesquite, Texas; a son, Matthew of Mesquite; three sisters, Elizabith Smith of Marshalltown, Mary Jane Calkins of Marshalltown and Dorothy Hill of Laured; two brithers, William of Marshalltown, and Don of Hastings, Neb.; and two grandchildren.
