Connie Mahoney

Orangevale, California - Connie Mahoney was born July 1944 on a farm south of Albany, Missouri, to Juanita Wharton, the youngest of four children. Her father Clifford Wharton died when Connie was seven. Her mother moved the family to Marshalltown, Iowa, because teacher salaries were better there. Connie graduated from Marshalltown High School and decided to get her degree at Colorado State University.
While there, she began dating John Mahoney. When John took a teaching job in Sacramento, they continued a long distance courtship. In her senior year John proposed and the next summer they wed.
In the next ten years Connie had two sons and finished her elementary credential. A long term substitute job turned into a full time job at Cordova Gardens. She taught there for eleven years until a new school Natoma Station opened. She taught thirteen more years until here retirement in 2007. She filled her retirement playing bridge, golfing, reading, and traveling.
In 2019 she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. She fought the disease for over two years until her death October 3rd this year. She leaves behind her two sons Colin and Travis Mahoney, her sister Barbara Rainey, and her brothers James and Richard Wharton.
