"Patty grew up on a farm near Haverhill, IA.  She was an overlooked middle daughter with five siblings.  It happened that a carload of girls would make the trip to St. Mary's H.S. and somehow she was on it.  She married (Larry John Bartlett) shortly after high school and had two sons (Randy John Bartlett & Darrell Dean Bartlett) with two grandsons (Tanner Boone Bartlett & Myles Patrick Bartlett) forthcoming.

She worked at Marshall Manufacturing for almost ten years and then opened a daycare business.  She had a profound influence on countless children.

She believed in education and later in life, she wanted to attend college.  Instead, her two sons were the first in the family to earn bachelor degrees.  Both attended Iowa State University:  the eldest went on to merit an M. S. and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and later authored a book, which is dedicated to her.

Unfortunately, she was addicted to tobacco and it took a toll on her health before she could quit.  During the spring of 2004, Patty lost an unusual amount of weight.  That September, she attended to her eldests son's wedding celebration in Shanghi, China.  She saw the Forbiden City, the Great Wall, and took in the culture.  Shortly after returning she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and would hold on for eleven months.  In her last weeks, she was visited by her mother and eldest sister, which was an event in itself.  They found her outside working in her garden.

Her true wealth was her unselfishness and kindness toward others.  She is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Laurel, Ia.  The cemetery's Lone memorial bench is in her honor.
