A house fire late Tuesday claimed the life of a Marysville man but his wife escaped the blaze that destroyed the couple's home.
Greg Haas, 65, died in the fire at 306 Laramie St., which was reported to Marysville Volunteer Fire Department at 10:22 p.m., said Fire Chief Dave Richardson.
Haas' wife, Janice Haas, managed to get out the back door of the home, which was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke, neighbors said. Greg Haas was thought to have been asleep in a bedroom.
Firefighters fought the fire until 4 a.m. Wednesday.
The state fire marshal's office investigated the blaze, Richardson said. No cause has yet been determined.
