Hey Everyone....Yes, made it to Dubai and brought with me a cold and or allergies! Haven't felt the best. Had them drop me off at the Emirates Mall today, the one with the indoor ski slope. I looked around for a little bit, then went to to "Dubai Walmart" as I call it but known here as Carrefore....whatever. Those people were so rude!!! Steve couldn't believe it that I called for someone to come get me so soon!!! Well, look at the $$$$$ I saved him! lol! But I refuse to pay 10 times what it costs in the USA and 15 times what it is worth! And I refuse to hang out with rude Aholes. We did find out that Steve will be working in Oak Ridge when we come home Jan 13. He will be the East Coast Manager of procurement with the same company that he is working with now. Now, he still is talking with 2 others companies for jobs here in the UAE, but the economy has hit the whole world, so things have been put on hold here, lots of things/jobs been put on hold. We are looking forward to be living together at home. Merry Christmas everyone....

That is wonderful news about Steve working in Oak Ridge even if it is just for a little while. Sounds like you are definitely in the wrong part of the world for shopping, unless you are married to an oil man, speaking of that, have you found me a rich sheik yet???? Will be good to see you when you get back. Wish you were here so you wouldn't hold Lydia. Hey, she is bigger now and not so fragile appearing.

Susan: glad you are safe. Hope your time over there is good. Let us know when you get back.

One more wake up then it's TWO DAYS OFF!!!! Can't wait.

Happy Christmas!

Susan -- Have a merry Christmas in Dubai, and congrats to Steve for heading to Oak Ridge.

Roger -- 0400?! Only if I'm going duck hunting (which I don't do anymore since an alligator ate a duck before I could retrieve it).

Diane -- enjoy the holiday with your very best present, Lydia. In fact, same to all of you who have grandchildren.

Karen -- Diane's stocking memory was a reminder to me as well.

Jonathan -- We always had a spruce tree of some sort from the tree people in the A&P parking lot (my dad worked at A&P ... Hall Road, I think it was).

Debbie -- I never ever put the "icicles" on the tree to suit my sister ... she'd sneak back & re-do mine.

We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, & safe passages if you're travelling.

By the way, appreciate being so close to your families for the holiday. I miss that.

Roger, you just aren't right. I can't ever see me willingly getting up at 4 a.m. I guess it's what you get used to doing, though.

Thanks to all who shared their Christmas memories. Here are a few of mine:

When I was a kid at home, I used to love putting the icicles on the tree, that was the icing on the cake, so to speak. We had a real tree for years, usually a spruce (I think - the one with the really tight, short needles). It always was decorated with those lights in the primary reds, greens, blues and yellows that got SO HOT you could barely touch them when one burned out. My sister, who is much, much older than I am, had bubble lights on her tree that absolutely fascinated me. Seems like they have made a comeback in recent years - those early ones were considered fire hazards.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet is the spray can of snow, where you could get stencils, hold them (or tape them) to the windows and spray the "snow" to leave the image of a candy cane or Christmas ornament or whatever. The windows in our house were the old-fashioned kind that had condensation on them, so I remember having to redo our stencils occasionally when they melted off the window.

Merry Christmas, everyone, and may each of us make good memories to share next year!

Hey Roger,Just to let you know I'm able to get up at anytime.I guess it from working Trauma call at UT Hospital. Hope everybody has a safe Christmas and even safer New Years. My best memories was when my dad read us the Christmas story from the Bible.

Merry Christmas Classmates. I too remember putting icicles on the tree and getting fruit and nuts in my stocking. I generally got a new doll also. I was fascinated when daddy would get Christmas Cards from his buddies from WWII. Some of their names sounded funny to a girl named Smith in plain Maryville, TN. In decorating the tree I would keep this one ornament to the last to put on. It was my favorite ornament and I am looking at it sitting on my bookshelf now. It is a little house with glitter on it. It sits beside an empty Avon bottle that is shaped as a bird and had perfume in it. My daddy bought mom, me and my sister all the same perfume one year for Valentines Day. My daddy was very thoughtful and funny.
I wish you all can be with loved ones this season.

Merry Christmas all! Hope everyone is able to enjoy time spent with friends and family. Beware the fruitcake, go easy on the eggnog, and be safe if you're traveling.

Wow! One of the best Christmas' we've ever had!!!! Everything was just relaxed, we enjoyed each other, parties went well. It was just an enjoyable time of being together with family and friends and celebrating the birth of Jesus.

Christmas morning was a hoot. Joey was up early, dragging Erin out of bed. It's always been the other way around. He was just plain giddy this year. I think his excitement took over and we all just had the most awesome morning.

Right now I am watching the Dubai Classic on the golf channel, drinking coffee, and eating shortbread cookies. I am keeping the shortbread cookies in the kitchen and I am in the den. I go to the kitchen, get ONE cookie, return to the den. This is my exercise program...walking back and forth to the kitchen. Probably going to workout quite a bit this morning. hehe

I sincerely hope everyone had a great Christmas and hope we ALL have a good 2009. Lots of uncertainties in the coming days. Keep the faith. Positive thoughts result in positive actions.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. Mine was great, had 9 days with my girls (and Rick) and had a wonderful time. I am lacking a few hours of sleep but wouldn't want it back. I am already in Lydia withdrawal. Back to the work for the next four days. Have a good New Year's.

Thanks to those who shared their Christmas celebrations. Sounds like we all have a lot to be thankful for. My family's Christmas was hectic, as usual, but we all had good food and good fellowship out at my sister Mary's, who has taken the matriarchal duty of hosting Christmas dinner since Mama passed away. Doesn't seem possible that Mama's been gone 15 years as of Jan. 20. ... We had extra fun with three little ones. My Ellie is 14 months, great-great-niece is 16 months and great-great-nephew is 7 months. I didn't have a finger-stutter, either - that really is two "greats," these are the great-grandchildren of my siblings. I got some hilarious photos of all three babies and their mommies together.

Roger, you made me feel so good with your positive post. It would be great if everyone looked at life and the future as you do instead of always complaining! If I wore a hat, it would be off to you for changing the tone of my entire day.

FYI, one of our classmates is in the paper tomorrow. Look at the "elves" at the bottom of the LifeTimes section front and you'll see Joel Stoutt with some of his coworkers. They decided to forego an office gift exchange and give gifts to Fairview Head Start instead. Way to go, Joel and company!

Good Morning All!

Let me start by saying I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas! There I said it! At my school, all we could say was "Happy Holidays"! It feels great just to say - Merry Christmas to all!

Things have been very busy for me since Dec. 17th. I had to fly home because my Dad had back surgery and my brother Danny had a stroke at the same time. I came back to Maryville and took care of them until the 24th. They are both doing well and I was happy to get back to Virginia to spend Christmas with my boys. I am sorry that I didn't get in touch with everyone while I was there, but I spent a lot of time with Dr. appointments and nursing two grown men. I will catch you all next time.

Susan, happy to hear you are with your husband in Dubai. Look for the new Anheuser-Busch theme park that is being build there. I got a job offer there back last season, but turned it down! Dubai was too far from Maryville!

That is about it for me. Kenneth is up visiting my family this week. The boys are getting to know him better.

I just wanted to touch base and say, " I wish you all a Happy New Year and peace and joy this year"!

Love, Sandy

Oh, by the way, I don't go back to school until January 5th! Love it!

Kathy Phillips (McBride)

I guess Christmas is officially over at the McBride house now. My brother and his wife were in from Memphis, and we had dinner and exchanged gifts last night.

I always have a Christmas breakfast since my stepkids have to figure out how to spread themselves among the competing (literally competing - he who has the most guests wins) lunches and dinners their mother's family has planned. We always have a great time, and it is over early enough for a really quality afternoon nap!

We enjoyed each other's company, exchanged a few gifts, and told tales on each other.

Happy New Year to you all.

hpoe everyone had a great Christmas. i'm just taking it easy for a few days so do't everyone work too hard

12/30/08 03:29 PM #575

Debbie Pickel (Harper)

Sounds like everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I got to watch my two little grandbabies tear into gifts, and I loved every minute of it. Carter, who will be two in February, just enjoyed all of the wrapping paper. He would lie down in the paper & scream & laugh. Took Chloe to Dollywood this saturday (she will be 5 in March), and somehow she talked this Grandma into riding the Ferris Wheel....I hate heights. Well, yes we got stuck on the very top for a few horribly frightening moments...and what did she do? She laughed at me! She said, "Grandma, you're so funny! If we can't get down, we'll just spend the night under God's stars!" Wisdom from the mouth of a child. And, like Diane having Lydia withdrawals, I am having Chloe & Carter withdrawals! Susan, can't wait until you & your husband come back!! So glad he will be working in Oak Ridge, and you got there safely! I am off until Jan. 6, and believe it or not, I am bored! Well, love all of you guys!

12/30/08 06:42 PM #576

Diane Welch (Welch)

Debbie I don't think you are allowed to even breaththe word bored being lucky enough to be off until the 6th. I am glad you had fun with your grandkids. Just got off webcam with Lydia, made her smile, she always makes me smile.

Should be time for a dinner or something in a few weeks. Unfortunately I am working the rest of the week, took my New Year's Holiday yesterday so I could recover from my time with the "family." So, I won't be out partying until midnight tomorrow, not that I would any way. ha.

12/30/08 09:05 PM #577

Debbie Pickel (Harper)

Hey Diane...and ANYONE ELSE....we could do our New Years partying early tomorrow night if anyone is free...at what has evidently become the EHS73 hangout, Applebees. Don't know if anyone is free, but I will check this site tomorrow to see if anyone wants to meet at Applebees around 7pm tomorrow evening. Sorry, that's about as "partying" as I get...haha.

12/30/08 09:06 PM #578

Debbie Pickel (Harper)

Oh, and by "tomorrow evening" ...I am talking about Wednesday, Dec. 31. Sorry about that....

12/31/08 05:48 AM #579

Diane Welch (Welch)

Thanks for the invite but I already have plans for dinner. Let me know the next time you want to get together and I will be there.

12/31/08 01:40 PM #580

Jonathan Denton

hey Debbie can't make dinner tonight we are having food and fellowship at church tonight and everyone is welcome to come.

12/31/08 02:33 PM #581

Debbie Pickel (Harper)

no problem guys....have a great time!! I have been invited to something similar Jonathan, and I think I will do that tonight. In case you are ever interested, it is a Christian organization for single folks...all ages, but mostly they are 40+. (of course I can't seem to get passed 29...haha). They call themselves FFG, which stands for Friends For God. They do things like hiking, camping, hayrides, board games, movies, bowling, etc. Well, everyone have a Happy New Year, and we'll do dinner again soon!

12/31/08 06:07 PM #582

Diane Welch (Welch)

Debbie- You might want to not pick such young prey as 29 year olds anymore, maybe 35, ha. Maybe you will meet an older one at that function.

It was great catching up with everyone this year and getting together. Hope we can do it much more in 2009. Everyone have a safe New Year.

12/31/08 07:34 PM #583

Linda Braden (Albert)

Happy New Year, my friends. I'm leaving work now and looking forward to pizza and wings at home as I await 2009! Everyone be safe out there after your festivities.

Well, I had just written a book to everyone here and Steve's keyboard is crazy, somehow I wiped the whole thing out....so the short version.....I will tell you the long version when we get back...glad everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years and keep the message forum alive. Anyone reading this, jump in....it is about everything and nothing and God blessing each of us with each other and being at a place in our lives that we are not AFRAID to tell each other that we love each other. So, in conclusion, I love you all and really miss MARYVILLE....have many stories to tell
