Diane Welch (Welch)

Good morning after class of 1973

We hope everyone had as good as time as I did. I don't think any of has changed a bit (not at all). So good to see everyone who made it. Again, encourage anyone who has put in their profile information to do so. It is great to hear what is going on in other classmates lives. Yes, we are going to work on getting a cruise together next spring some time, hopefully. The ones who went the year we turned 50 are still talking about it and laughing as hard now as we did then. Keep watching the website for details.... Debbie, Susan and I agreed this morning this was the best reunion to date. Thanks for all the kind words, it was really a lot of fun. And Linda, thanks for your contributions in the Times, however, we are a little worried about a follow up article. As Susan knows, we are all a little FUH- right Terry H.

Everyone keep in touch and stay safe.

Diane Welch, Welch, Welch.

What a great time last night! It was awesome to see everyone. It amazes me that so many people still live in the area and I have not seen anyone except Kathy Hall, Sue Thomas, Janet Rolen, and John Denton since graduation. Does no one eat out!? or go to the movies!? Linda: will try to get by the Times this week with my cd. Thanks for doing the pictures for us.

Just want everyone to know I had a great time last night. So many of you I had not seen since 1973 or thereabouts. It occurred to me that there are few places I can go anymore and see such nice folks. Many thanks to the organizers.

On a second note, I was thinking that Mike Thomas would be great in the political arena. I don't know of anyone from Everett '73 involved here at the county level. Therefore, I am hereby proposing MIKE THOMAS FOR COUNTY MAYOR!

WOW! When I came out of my hermit cave last night for the reunion, I certainly didn't expect to have such a great time! Congratulations to all who worked so hard to get this together. FYI: anything I overheard is fair game for a column ... The blackmail letters will be e-mailed privately ...

Ya know, we could have a mini-reunion just about any weekend. Sam Houston Historic Schoolhouse has a pavilion (with kitchen and restrooms) where we could get together for a potluck dinner plus we'd have the entire grounds to play ball or wander around. Fort Loudoun State Historic Area is great, too. We'd have to reserve the pavilion at each spot but I don't think the cost is very high.

Anyone who wants copies of the pics I took last night, just drop a CD off at The Daily Times with your name and a phone number on it so I can call you when it's ready. Ask for me but if I'm out, you can leave the CD with one of the receptionists and they'll get it to me. I tried to delete anything too embarrassing. Again, the blackmail letters are on the way privately...

Hey Buddies!

What a wonderful time. It was so much fun catching up with everybody! It brought back such wonderful memories.

Yes, thank you girls for putting together such a super party. Mike did a great job of getting people to open up and "admit"....I mean talk about fun times. I think Mr. Davis would re-evaluate his disciplinary strategies if he knew then what he knows now! Thank goodness we don't have high school do overs! We would all be lined up in his office with the "Board of Education" backing him up!

Bobby, I can't believe I left again and did not get you to sign my annual! How does that keep happening? I saw Sandy Smith on Sunday, and shamed her to death about missing the reunion. Says she will be at the next one, so let's hold her to it!

It was great seeing everybody, you all ROCK! Did somebody say "cruise"?

One last thing!

I was a little disappointed that John Sebastian did not attend the reuion. You know, we dated off and on in high school, and it would have been fun to see him again!

I had such a great time at the reunion...thank you all for planning such a fantastic event---as a class, we've done well & still recognize each other; miracles never cease. Can't wait for the cruise!!! Bobby, I will find you that perfect little black dress for the next event

Hi everyone! I could just say "ditto" to the previous posts. I so enjoyed the reunion too. It was my first (yep, after 35 years)...and when I read about it, I just knew I needed to reconnect. Thanks to all the organizers and to everyone at Sullivans. It was grand ole time. Take care everyone!

Susan Jane Loftis (Gracia)

Hello Classmates!
It sure sounds like you all had a wonderful time last night at Sullivan's! I wish I could have been there. I was so shy in high school that I doubt that some of you remember me! HA! I sure do remember you all and I have gotten a lot of laughs reading your messages that you have written back and forth to each other!

I can't believe that so many of you are teachers. That is unreal! I know that I couldn't be one, I would just look at them and forget what to say. Please let me know about the next adventure!
Blessings,
Jane

Debbie Pickel (Harper)

Jane, the next 'adventure' just might be a cruise!!! At least I hope so...I know I'm up for it! I think Traci L. is going to bring her strawberry pies with her if she goes on the cruise. Right, Traci? And we will have to make Mike Thomas come ...he can lead us off in Karaoke! :-)

On a serious note, I thought it was amazing how we all reconnected...it was really so strange, but wonderfully (is that a word?) sweet. Words really do not express how good it felt to be with people who knew you 'back in the day.' At our age (and no, we are not old!!!), that is something to cherish. And I always will!

Susan Jane Loftis (Gracia)

Debbie,
Just what kind of cruise are you all talking about? I love strawberry pie!

09/02/08 05:42 PM #98

Roger McCown

Jane Loftis: You signed my annual as if you were a teacher..."I have enjoyed having you in my typing II class this year"! I thought you were going to be a teacher. Does anyone know whatever happened to Ken Beaver or Kibble Mitchell?

09/02/08 05:53 PM #99

Susan Jane Loftis (Gracia)

Roger McCown,
I'm so sorry that I sounded so like a teacher. I'm am so not like a teacher buddy! I regret not getting to know a lot of you all. The way Connie Talbot Littleton told me about what went on at the school, I must have went somewhere else! I was so naive and somewhat shy.

There are alot of people that passed away that I would like to know what happened to them. I know about some of them. Do you know about any of them Roger?

Jane

Debbie McKinney (Spears)

I just want everyone to know how much we appreciate your kind words. The reunion was great because all of you made it that way. AS Mark Sterling put it, the only things that really matter are family and friends. I so enjoyed seeing all of you, and even recognized almost everyone! Please keep your profile updated so that we can get new info out to you. Including the cruise info! A special thanks to Linda Albert for her great article and please be kind on the follow-up!
Bobby, if we go on the cruise you will still have a reason to find that little black dress!

Sandy Whaley-- keep your hands off of John Henry, I am the single one looking for a rich, rich man, I told you the next time is for money, not for love....Call us when you are back in town.

Diane

Linda Braden (Albert)

Janey, I'm with you. I was so naive in high school it's a wonder I survived. FYI: You might want to rethink Traci's strawberry pies. Check out previous posts for her special ingredient.
I think Mike Blair had cancer, and Beaver Lambert Isbill had breast cancer. Debbie Long had had health problems for awhile but she didn't talk much about exactly what was wrong. I think she wanted to focus on good things instead of how badly she felt, which is what we should all do, in my opinion. I've been told that Johnny Baker died in a drowning accident but can't confirm that, and that Wallace Carroll was in a motorcycle accident.

Janet Rolen (Lidvall)

Susan, Debbie, and Diane I just wanted to throw in my "thank you" for the Reunion and the WONDERFUL website. It is so much fun to check out what everyone has been up to. See you at the next one!

Janet

Speaking of those that has passed on before us:
Tom Everett passed away with a heart attack some years ago. He had settled down & married with a 4 year old son at the time.

Susan DeLozier

Sandy, which Tom Everett? Someone else had told me that, but I didn't know for sure which one. One went to Alnwick and the other one went to Union grade schools. I'm thinking that it is the one from Alnwick?

Again, everyone, thanks for your kinds, positive words.

I don't know where he went to school before Everett. His dad and brother Rick were both land surveyors. Tom was actually scheduled to work for my husband when he died. When Tom didn't show up we learned that he had gotten ready for work and died in the kithchen before leaving the house. His wife found their 4 year old son Benjamin with his dad.

Pam Sparks had cystic fibrosis and other problems. She suffered from this disorder. Some say she od. I don't know if autopsy was done. But I do know she outlived the years the doctors had given her parents when she was young.

Ricky Bowers was a gentle giant. Didn't remember him from school but got to know him well in 2002. He would come to the Chilhowee Baptist Center and donate his time. He would hand out groceries, sing and give a service for the clients there. Many times he would have to use a wheelchair due to his ill health. And all the while he would say he was blessed because he had woke up that morning. There was a time in Hoss's life that he was doing everything but living for the Lord but he allowed the Lord to change him. He had a sweet voice and had a heart for the hurting. I miss him.
