Making new friends, great teachers and classes, lunch!, student council, NHS, Brain Bowl, my boyfriend, diversity, dances, pep rallies, homecoming parades, football games, the band playing "Smoke on the Water," class plays, toga parties at the beach, car washes, all the cute boys, inside jokes, and SEARCH class with Martha Tiller and lifelong friends was the icing. Oh, and hugging everyone at graduation.

Opening my senior year yearbook to the Student Council pages, and seeing the hatchet job the yearbook staff/editors/teacher did on me and all in SC. Terrible and unflattering pictures and words. It hurt a lot, and I cannot believe that it was approved. At best it was dripping with sarcasm, but really, it was mean and petty. I now know it was a form of bullying. I regret not complaining to the administration on behalf of all of us, who were kids just trying to do our best.

I had a blast at FSU and graduated with a Biology degree in 1984. attended medical school at the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville on an Air Force scholarship and graduated in 1988. I married my classmate Dave Mercer December of 1985. After graduation, we moved to San Antonio, TX for residency. I served as a Captain in the USAF and completed my residency in psychiatry at Wilford Hall USAF hospital in 1992. I was then stationed at Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach, FL until June of 1996. I transitioned to civilian life and was in private practice for 18 years in Fort Walton Beach, FL. I moved to Atlanta in 2014, and work as a staff psychiatrist at Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlants. I've enjoyed all that Atlanta has to offer from concerts to dive bars, from Braves games to the symphony, from greasy spoon diners to fine dining. I'm so lucky that family moved here, and that I am able to watch my granddaughter Iris grow up!
