"Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien Daren, 64, passed away of heart failure at St. Luke's Hospital in Meridian, ID. Daren was born to Eva and Dale Josephson in Driggs, ID and was one of 4 children. His twin, Don, died one day after their birth. Throughout his life, Daren's younger sister, Cheryl, and older brother, Randy, were his best friends; Daren and Randy living within one block of each other for decades in Boise, ID. During Daren's childhood, the family moved frequently, following his father's job as a mechanic on road construction equipment. The family lived in Driggs, ID; West Yellowstone, MT; Lima, MT; Cheyenne, WY; Horseshoe Bend, ID; Big Piney, WY; Paul, ID; Rexburg, ID; Richfield, ID, and Montpelier, ID; eventually settling in Meridian, ID, where all three surviving children graduated from high school. Daren was well known for his intelligence, fierce independence, creative talent, dry sense of humor, quick wit, loyalty to his family, and love for solitude in the desert and mountains of Idaho. He lived life on his own terms; simply, and never compromising his individuality. Daren was passionate about wilderness and his job, taking thousands of photos of his work and of the rugged areas in which he worked. He also loved exploring the remote back roads of Idaho and Oregon in his 4x4 Toyotas. Daren was incredibly complicated, and had little patience for superfluous details and small talk, preferring to give gifts without pomp or pretense, and say in conversations only what needed to be said. Daren could convey more in an understated, tongue-in cheek comment or a wink of a blue eye, than many could in hours of speech. In college, Daren accumulated credits towards degrees in aviation management, business, and geology before deciding to leave school to work for Boise Cascade, laying carpet in manufactured homes. After working for Boise Cascade, Daren went to work for Idaho Power. Daren spent his 30 year career constructing, wiring, and inspecting substations and power plants throughout Idaho, northern Nevada, and eastern Oregon. He was devoted to his work and was well respected at Idaho Power, earning the nickname "Mayor of Brownlee" from his co-workers. Daren was a talented carpenter and artist, creating pieces ranging in size and complexity from a small carved wooden talisman, to a grandfather clock. As a young adult, he raced motorcycles as well as bicycles, participating in the annual Boise Twilight Criterium and long distance cycling from Boise to Stanley. Daren was a voracious reader and was especially fond of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Jean M. Auel, and Louis L'Amour. He loved his family dearly and was always there for them when they needed him, lending his stoic strength and quiet affection through illnesses, losses, divorces, and other difficult life changes. Daren was preceded in death by his mother, Eva, father, Dale, brother-in-law, Brent, and nephew, Kasey. He will be greatly missed by siblings Randy (Boise) and Cheryl (Bellingham, WA), and niece, Kelly (Bellingham, WA). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 2:00 PM at the Meridian Friends Church, 1021 W. Pine Ave, Meridian. Remembrances may be left for the family at www.AccentFuneral.com. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian. 888-5833. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Daren's name to the Nature Conservancy.
