Broccoli Soup

1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup yellow onions,chopped fine
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups chopped broccoli florets
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf
Dash of garlic powder

Bring chicken broth,chopped onions, broccoli and spices to a
boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove bay leaf and puree soup in food processor.
Make a white sauce* (see below)
Slowly wire whisk into soup mixture until you have the
soup to the consistency that you desire.
Heat slowly for another 15 minutes, stirring often.
Serve hot.

*White sauce
2 Tablespoons butter
2-3 Tablespoons flour
1 cup milk or 1 cup half and half, which ever you prefer.

Melt butter and slowly mix in flour with a small wire whisk
to make a paste.
Slowly add milk to flour mixture. Stirring with a wire whisk
continually over warm heat.
Always stir in the same direction. Mixture will thicken
