In loving memory of our beloved son and brother, Kyle Clinton Holfeltz, 44, who passed away after a long illness in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born October 12, 1950 in Salt Lake City to Clinton and Melba Merkley Holfeltz. Kyle was a Vietnam Veteran. He loved his family and friends and sports of all kinds. We wish to thank the Veterans Administration Hospital, especially the nurses and doctors in the Dialysis Unit.
Survivors: mother, Melba, Sandy; sister, Lana Lurie Hickman and husband, Phil, West Valley City; daughter, Heather Daniel and many nephews. Preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1994 at 11 a.m. in the Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
I hooked up with Kyle when he got home from Viet Nam in 1971 or '72. He'd been in an Army hospital recovering from being paralyzed in combat. He was in a wheelchair. I tried not to cry when I saw him.
This was especially hard for me to calm down about because Kyle and I had run on the Midvale Junior High track team and later at Hillcrest. He was so tall and so fast that it didn't make sense how a guy that tall and skinny could run like that!
Kyle died in the early 90's from complications of his wounds after all those years. I left his mother a note at his funeral to be sure and petition the Army to have his name added to the Viet Nam Memorial in Washington.
She wrote me a nice thank you note and said she had done as I suggested and the Dept of Defense was going to add him. The last time I was there, about 2 years ago, I snapped a pic of his name on the memorial.
Kyle and I hooked up in Saigon late 1970, I was assigned to the U.S.Marines 2nd Division 2nd Company Artillary Division. My job was to cordinate Naval artillary and the Marine artillary division, forward base 502, Kyle and I had dated the same girl in high school, Diane Mc Callister, He won her heart and I Joined the Navy. When I saw Kyle I broke ranks and ran after him, we spent about 6 hrs together, I was going up to Da nang His company was headed to the mountainous region. We had a few beers together and talked about school, and what we were doing there, Kyle was a proud to serve his country and wanted the best for the Vietnameese peoples. We hugged each other for the longest time said our good lucks, good byes, I'll miss him. Scott Glanville

Kyle and I grew up in the same general neighborhood in the East Midvale 1st ward before it was split (5th ward).I still carry in my day-planner the pencil "rubbing" I made of his name on the Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C. (5W line 88).
I am proud to be able to call him a friend and especially a partiot and defender of our American freedom.
