Sheldon Maynes Obituary

Sheldon Grant
Maynes
5/14/51 - 12/17/14
Sheldon was born in Murray, Utah to John Alexander and Jeanne Walters. He graduated from Hillcrest High
School in 1969. He played football and wrestled. He spent all of his free time hunting, fishing and growing the
largest garden on the block. His last great hunt was up the Skyline with his son and grandchildren. Despite
being on dialysis for 7 years, he never let his health get in his way of getting his trophy buck or spending time
with his family. Sheldon will be remembered for his quick wit and humor, his love of the outdoors and the love
he had for his children and grandchildren.

He married Cathy Perkins in 1983 in Salt Lake City. They had three children who were the love of his life. He
was preceded in death by his parents; John and Jeanne, his brothers; Terry and C. Keith, and his sister;
Marsha Daniels. He is survived by his children; Ben (Karen) McLaughlin, Randie (Alberto) Aguilar, and Colby
(Heidi) Maynes, and by his 8 grandchildren.

Services will be held at the LDS Chapel at 87 E. 7100 S. in Midvale on Saturday, December 20 at 11:00 a.m.
with a viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Sheldon's final resting place will be his favorite spot at the top of
Ferguson Canyon where he and his brothers grew up hunting.

Sheldon was a good friend.  We were the two starting offensive guards on the football team.  His older brother, Russ, was a friend as well for many years.  Goodbye Sheldon, enjoy the great hunting grounds in heaven.

Sheldon and Sterling were the pulling guards in the belly offense that made the running backs look so good by opening up gaping holes. Sheldon never complained when I would run up his back now and then. One tough kidd! Love ya man!

Enjoyed bow hunting with Sheldon and his family many years ago up on the Skyline. Remember one year my brother shot a huge 5 point buck. We cut it in half to carry it out of a deep canyon. Sheldon took the big half, threw it on his shoulder and never stopped. Blew us away. Gentle good man.

Sheldon was nice to me.  Thanks to Sheldon and the rest of the "guys" that gave us a good time watching them being not nice to the other football teams.

Sheldon was a quiet giant and never looked for attention.  Though years have passed with little contact his kindness and friendship will forever be remembered.   He was tough as nails, quiet as a mouse and had the heart of a lion. Thank you Sheldon for being my friend.

If my memory hasn't totally failed me, I had my first kiss from Sheldon in the first grade when we were playing "kissing tag😘". I was so in love💞. I'm sad to hear of his passing. He was so sweet. <>>

I'm entering this memory for Steve Workman.  He told me he had the same high opinion of him as has been expressed by the football team, but Steve's observations were from the school playground.  Sheldon was gentle and strong right out of the box in 1st grade!
