Kenneth 'Ken' Landow

September 4, 1948 – March 11, 2022

Robert Kenneth Landow died on March 11, 2022, at the age of 73.  He was a well-known and highly respected dermatologist in Las Vegas, Nevada. At MHS, Ken seemed headed toward a medical career.   In addition to other activities, he was a member of the Future Physicians Club and the Psychology Club.  After MHS, he attended and graduated from Villanova University and attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.  While there, he spent a summer of in-service training at Newark, NJ’s Beth Israel Medical Center.  He got his Doctor of Medicine from UCLA and did his internship and residency at USC.  Subsequently, Dr. R. Kenneth Landow’s medical practice focused on general and cosmetic dermatology.  He held medical licenses in NV, CA, and AZ.

Born in Philadelphia and schooled on both coasts, Dr. Ken enjoyed the rank of Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the USC – Keck School of Medicine.  Among Ken’s honors and awards were his inclusion in “The Leading Physicians of the World” and the “Guide to America’s Top Dermatologists” as well as the “Presidential Who’s Who.” He also received the distinguished Patient’s Choice Award and was included as a Top Dermatologist in Las Vegas by “Best Doctors of America.”

While Ken’s passion was dermatology, he also spent much of his time studying medicine and translating the often-confusing subject into easy-to-understand language for the non-professional.   Throughout the 1970s and continuing into the early 2000s, he gave community service presentations on KVVU-FOX 5 and KDWN radio.  Ken had two programs on the Fox5 television station - “Medicine Week in Review” and "What's Up, Doc?"  For over ten years, he also wrote three weekly columns dealing with health-related issues in the Las Vegas Review Journal.  In the years before his death, he participated with weekly half-hour internet discussions regarding general medicine, which can be found by searching for Medicine Week in Review.

One medical colleague commented about Ken that he probably ranked as the only dermatologist to regularly attend national meetings in cardiology, gastroenterology, cancer research, internal medicine and urology as well as a long list of other specialties. He did all of this to maintain his cutting-edge knowledge to pass along to his viewing audience. He reinvigorated himself daily through distance swimming which provided the solitude to think and develop new concepts for his talk shows.

Ken’s patients and friends paint a picture of how much he was respected and appreciated by the many memories shared on his Neptune Society condolences page and in Facebook entries.  Among them, we learn “he was such a bright light” … “He explained subjects in such a professional and knowledgeable way.” …”he was such a unique and personable Dr” … “his compassion, knowledge and humor were such a blessing” … “absolutely love Dr Landow’s incredibly in depth videos about various medical conditions” … “he was our doctor for about 40 years” … “he saved my face during puberty” ...“great guy always wore a Sherlock Holmes type hat and a trench coat to shield himself from the sun” … “slightly eccentric” … “his favorite treat was black and white cookies” ... “convinced me to give up my hours and hours of laying in the Sun.  Probably saved my life."

Ken was predeceased by his parents, Stanley Taylor Landow and Constance Smuylan.  He is survived by his sister, Karen Ann Bisno, and her family.
