In Memory

Cathleen Marie Mallaney (Trees)

Kate Mallaney Trees passed away on Feb. 19, 2003 after a long illness, she was 46.

Kate was known as Cathy at MHS but changed to Kate in college after having a Freshmen year roommate also known as Cathy.  It was too confusing.  After MHS, Kate attended the University of Richmond, worked in NYC then moved to the Chicago area where she met her husband Gary.  They have 2 children, Michael and Brian who were 4 and 2 years old at the time of her passing.

Kate was extremely social and creative.  We remember her broad smile, infectious laugh and gift of gab.  She had a life long interest in the arts and especially loved Shakespeare.  Kate was a talented seamstress.  Her complicated sewing projects were constant and legendary.  She was a perfectionist with every task.  Kate had 6 siblings and a visit to the Mallaney's was always met with a flurry of activity and talking.  Kate and her sisters would all talk at once and she who spoke the loudest and longest was heard.

As we were all heading off to college, Kate was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.  She was treated, cured and went off to college like many of us.  Many years later after a successful sales career, marriage and 2 children, she had a recurrence of a more aggressive cancer.  Kate continued to visit family and friends in NJ and care for her 2 young boys.  She passed away peacefully at home.

I count myself in nothing else so happy
As in a soul remembering my good friends.
(Shakespeare,Richard II) 2.3.46-7, Bolingbroke to Percy
