Paul J. Serruto

The Paul J. Finn, Jr. Foundation Presents the Paul Serruto Outstanding Wrestler Award

The Paul Serruto Award is in honor of an outstanding young man whose life ended much too soon. He was a member of the Millburn Wrestling Program having competed at the Midget, Freshman Junior Varsity and Varsity Level.

Paul Serruto passed away in 1986 and represented the true spirit of Millburn Wrestling. One runs out of adjectives in describing Paul - determined, dedicated, devoted and filled with love and pride for his family, school and fellow wrestlers. Suffering from a debilitating ailment, he amazingly captured a District State Championship as a senior in 1975 and advanced to the Regional Final. Trailing 12-6 with: 59 seconds remaining, he managed to tie the score and force an overtime. His region title was won by a score of 7-2. Aware of his physical obstacles, the Daily Record of Morristown instituted a new yearly award in Paul’s honor – “The Gutsiest Performance of the Year Award” based on pure courage and determination. Paul’s Award is presented to the Most Valuable Wrestler of the Tournament.
