Survived By: Her husband, Tyrone Whalen, & 4 sons, their wives, & 3 grandchildren. Hi LDee ~ I found Judy on Facebook last year. I had not talked to, nor seen her for close to 30 years. She & I were very close friends in high school. She is greatly missed. We communicated a time or two through Facebook, & she told me that she was fighting congestive heart failure. I had no idea she was also fighting cancer. I learned that from her obituary I found in the Herald, from Everett, Washington. This news should be added to our class website. ~~ Dianne (Asplund) McWillilam February 19, 2014 Judy's obituary reads as follows: Judy Marie (Judith) Whalen ~ Obituary Judy "Judith" Marie Whalen passed away peacefully in her sleep at home during the early morning hours of November 5, 2013. She had fought a cheerful and courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born in Fargo, ND on February 18, 1943. She was the daughter of Cliff and Kathryn Reed (both deceased). She attended and graduated from Minot High School in Minot, ND. She later earned her medical assistant certification. Judy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ty, and her sons, Christopher (Patty), Nathan, Jeremy (Melissa) and Jonathan (Jamie); and three grandchildren, Jonathon, Aubrey and Avery. Judy was very active in her church. She helped organize the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She was also very active in the Bible Study Group. And then there was shopping. All anyone had to do was mention shopping and she was ready to go. And then she always had some project being planned. Judy enjoyed living in Everett for 17 years. She had that little joyful smile that lit up the room and those around her. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2617 Cedar St., Everett, WA, with a reception to follow at the Everett Elks Lodge, 2802 Hoyt Ave. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Providence Hospital Hospice, for which we give many thanks for their care and assistance. I also have great memories of Judy Reed. She lived right across the street from me in a huge white house up on a hill at the  corner of Central Ave. and 8th St. NW.

She was always cheerful and talkative. Our dads helped us out with rides home from school sometimes at noon. We waited at the side door of Ellisons for our ride.

I'm not surprised that she was active in the Catholic Church. She spoke of experiences at church quite often.

I'm sorry to hear that she struggled with cancer. My sympathy to her sons and families.
