I received a Christmas card from Tim.  It was his last Christmas.    We had been emailing a few times, as I recall, about a year before he died.  Somehow, I learned that he had lung cancer,  maybe via Lee Steinberg or Carroll Rasch.  I'm not sure.  Tim sat in front of me in "home room" those high school years.  I guess  from that alphabetical placement, I felt comfortable in emailing him, since we had exchanged some degree of conversation.  I remembered his laughter.   He was quite transparent about his life in Hawaii.  He shared about his intended tour in his Bentley through Arizona(that stands out in my mind), as well as visiting other friends on the Mainland.  His Christmas card touched my heart, given the dialogues we had exchanged via email.  Margaret

THEODORE TIMOTHY LOY JR., 60, of Honolulu, died March 23, 2003. Born in Minot, N.D. An advertising executive for Budget Rent A Car System of Hawaii. Survived by partner, Michael McKay; mother Grace; uncle; cousins; hanai family.

A great contribution by Tim was his memory of Main Street North of Central Avenue.  As we chatted, he built the diagram below from his memory.

Tim was another good friend, too soon departed.  After decades of not knowing where he was, we were finally reunited in Honolulu, thanks to Lee Steinberg.  As a boy, Tim was very bright, and very active.  I believe his father was once a professional boxer and his mother was certainly very talented.

One memory of Tim concerns his great Halloween costumes.  In fourth grade, he came to the school Halloween party as the Headless Horseman.  He was dressed all in black -- likely a suit of some sort under a flowing cape with red lining and with no head or even eyes showing.  There was some sort of rig underneath (on wheels?), that made him appear much larger than life.  It was a stunning, eerie costume, and his mother and father likely won first prize!

One of my final memories is of Tim's positive attitude as he fought cancer.  He had purchased a classic Bentley and was driving it around the mainland US and visiting his mother in AZ before shipping it to Honolulu.  He took great pride in that sedan and said he was on his First Annual Goodby Tour.  He was going to drive us to dinner one night during our Hawaiian visit, and was shagrinned to find it was leaking hydraulic fluid.  Tim and Mike had opened a book store and we shared Thanksgiving dinner with them and their friends on a mountainside overlooking downtown Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean.

Below, is a photo taken on Tim's yacht shortly before his death...  Three long-lost friends reunited via the magic of the Internet and E-mail.

Echo Warren's comments - I remember Tim  always talking about wanting to be a mortician - perhaps that explains some of his halloween costumes...remember Tim in Mr. Graving's Concert Band - played clarinet as I recall...again, sad to see someone passing before their time...
