Valerie Holder - Class Of 1981

Valerie was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease at the age of 27. She had a long battle with this disease.  After chemo, radiation and a bone marrow transplant she was able to enjoy 7 more years with her wonderful husband Greg in Edmonton. In 1996 she was diagnosed with leukemia. Another bone marrow transplant was unable to save her and she passed away in April 1996.  She is survived by her husband Greg Schoepp, her sister Sue, her brothers Dave and Mark, and her parents John and Barbara.

Valerie died? Does anyone have any details? I was a cheerleader on the squad when she was heading it... how very sad that she is no longer with us...

Such sad, sad news... I too found out only recently through her brother Mark about this bright light being taken from us far too soon. Valerie and I were also cheerleaders together as well as friends throughout our middle / highschool years. She was a beautiful person inside and out and I will never forget her bubbly, kind personality, her intelligence, her voice or her laughter.

I still recall her as one of the very first people at Glenforest to get the "new perm"... and she had all those golden curls (and a few burns).... Then there was the time in the middle of winter when we all wore bathing suits, sashes and tiaras and competed in a "cheerleaders on ice" event... even building a pyramid on the ice while wearing ice skates -- very risque at the time...

But my sweetest memory... and I still hear her angelic voice sing:

"Where are you going? Where are you going? Won't you take me with you...? For my hand is cold and needs warmth... Where are you going? Far beyond where the horizon lies... The horizon lies... "

Rest in peace dear sweet Val.... We shall see each other again... far beyond where the horizon lies... xo

So sad to hear of Valerie's passing.  What a great sense of humour and huge smile she brought us in band as well as her athleticism in cheerleading.
