----- Original Message -----From: JAMES K TANISSent: Tuesday, November 16, 2010 4:19 PMSubject: Freddie L. Meinert-OlsonHi Rich,You have not doubt heard by now that we lost another classmate, Freddie Lou Meinert Olson. Her brother Dale Meinert called me the day after she died, which was last Tuesday, Nov. 9th. She had been in the hospital in intensive care with a serious case of pneumonia, which he had told usabout earlier. But she was expected to recover. However on Sunday, the 7th, her blood pressuredropped, and vital organs started to fail. She just was not responding to medication. The familyhad or is having a private family memorial service in Utah; nothing will be here, but there will bean obit in the paper.I am wondering if you can send out a group email informing all those who have email of her passing. We have passed the word around here locally, but it would be good to let everyone know. Also, this kind of situation is an opportunity to give "in memory" to her to our Fund. Is there is a way tostate this in the email? It might result in donations. When we had our meeting with the foundationpeople, they talked about including a link right to Muskegon Community Foundation, and clickingon the name of our fund. Donations can then be made right on line. Otherwise, checks couldbe sent to Sally Diepen at her home address: 3164 W. M20, New Era, MI 49446.Not sure if this is too confusing, but wanted to make sure the notice of her passing is shared. Folksprobably are not checking the website that much, but email is probably more efficient. Thanks for your help.Martha T.

E-Mail Letter From:
Judie Sternke Widder July 3, 2010
Well, was hoping to attend but Doctor will not let me fly, I have a ruptured eardrum. Living here in LV is terrible on the sinus problems, ear problems and allergies. Never had an allergy to anything. Didn't develop them till l the area started building up. Been here 25 years now should be used to things now. Plus, because we get so much wind and very little rain all of the stuff just blows around. We have had 3 days of no wind since March.
Healthwise, other than seeing an ENT Dr. a whole lot of times during the year, my Internist 3-4 times a year and my Chiropractor as needed, I am still in pretty darned good health.
I promise to do a profile uppdate and get some pictures to you before reunion. The registration form won't let me go in and say I can't attend.
By the way, I hope that lots of videos & pictures & a memory book will be done for the reunion.
I will be happy to pay whatever for copies sent or emailed to me of all the activities so at least I can feel like I am there.
Please tell everyone hello from me and wish I was there!!
Have a great 4th of July!!

Letter from:
Martha (Nelson) Tanis
Greetings Everyone !!
As your committee is working to complete plans for our reunion,
we want to draw your attention to some important details.
1. Many of you have posted your profile online and have registered
for your chosen events, which is GREAT! But for those of you
who have posted your profile, but have not registered for any
events, you MUST now go online and register for the events we
have planned. That is the only way we can get a count for each
activity, especially the dinner at Lakeside. We have a deadline
of July 10th for registering for the dinner. Lakeside Inn is
located at 5700 N. Scenic Dr., which is at the corner of S. Shore
Drive and Scenic Drive by White Lake Golf Course.
2. If you have registered online and intend to pay by check,
send your money to SALLY DIEPEN @ 3164 West M-20, New Era,
MI 49446 VERY SOON. Her phone 231-861-4630. Include a note to
explain what you are paying for.
3. Anyone who would like to make a donation to the Montague Class of
1960 Fund, you can make a check out to "Community Foundation for
Muskegon County." Make a notation at the bottom: Montague Class
of 1960. Send your check to SALLY DIEPEN at the same address
stated above. We are within $1500 of our goal of $10,000, which
will allow us to offer grants to deserving classes for special
projects. As we stated before, this is NOT a scholarship fund;
it is for any class at Montague Public Schools who needs some
financial help with a class event, such as having a guest
speaker or assisting with a field trip.
4. If you are a "Local" class member and are coming to Janet's house
on Saturday, July 31st, please bring 1 or 2 lawn chairs, plus
a dish to pass and your own drink. Those living away, just bring
your own drinks, and maybe some snack food. O.K? Janet's 1/2 mi.
driveway is 5775 Old Channel Trail, just after the 2nd 45 mph sign
and just beyond a log cabin on your left (South side of road).
Phone: 894-8202. Also, if you have any pictures you would like
to share, bring them Janet's on Sat., for our picture boards.
5. DRESS CODE?: CASUAL!! This includes the dinner on Sunday.
We cannot stress that enough...we want everyone to be relaxed
and have a good time. Dress for comfort.
6. If you have read this information, please tell others so they
get all the information.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
MARTHA (NELSON) TANIS
A LETTER AND REPLY
On Sun, 6/13/10, Richard Smith wrote
Janet (West) Rolewicz about Her Party Needs:
Should I be announcing anything about the event at your house
(beyond what's been said already on the site ?)
Some people want to know if they can help --
I tell them to call you or one of the others on the committee.
Sounds like we might get a crowd!
Wrote Back Saying:
Help on Saturday before the party is also welcomed.
This way no one has to stand over a hot grill all night or be in the kitchen.
I can't think of anything else.
I can't wait for the fun to begin.
Freddie (Meinert) Olson 5/23/2010
Rich,
Hello Class of 1960
Sorry that Ole and I will not be attending the 50 year class reunion. Neither of us likes to fly and besides, who wants to go through all of the security checks you have to do in order to even get on board the plane.
The only way we would have come to the reunion would have been to drive and to drive 1800 miles one way is just not our bag. Also Ole had major surgery last year for circulation problems in his legs and had to have a triple by pass in his legs. As a result of the circulatory problem he ended up losing two toes on his left foot. For this reason he doesn’t sit for long periods of time and when you are driving you spend a lot of time sitting.
We have booth been retired from the government now for 17 years and haven’t missed a moment of not going to work. We still have the 3 Grandsons and 1 Granddaughter. In fact the Granddaughter is graduating on the 2nd of June. Sure seems like time just flies by.
As most of you know I lost my Mother in 2007 and lost my Brother Tom last year, 2009.
We have in the most part been really good and I wish all the best for the class of 1960 and hope that you all have a wonderful reunion and that lots of the class will make a showing. Give my best to all!
Freddie (Meinert) & Ole Olson
LETTER CONCERNING
The passing of Kay (Gruette) Leggett March 12, 2010
Dear Class Members of 1960,
Recently postcards were mailed to class members who have not signed on to our web site yet. I just received a phone call from Kay Gruette Leggett's husband, David, who received the invitation to our reunion. Sadly, he told me Kay passed away January 24, 2010 of
complication from breast cancer. They have 2 grown daughters, one of whom lives near them in LA, and have 2 grandchildren. Kay was a retired high school English teacher.
Kay had surgery last July, and seemed to be doing alright. Then in December, she began to complain of back pain. In January, she began having serious complications, which lead to the discovery of more cancer; she passed away in the hospital on January 24th.
For those of you who remember Kay, you can send a card to David
and family at:
David Leggett
123 Crestwood
Houghton LA 71037
Warmest regards,

We are saddened to hear about Jack Daily ( Betty Schiller's Husband).
I just talked to him a week or so ago and all was well then. We must remember that we all are just one heart beat from eternity and we are not given tomorrow. That is why we must be sure that we have our life in order and a born again son of God. Then we know that a believer never dies but goes to that 6th diemention where the saints of God are gathered.
Betty and family we hold you before the King of Kings and Lord of Lords our Lord Jesus Christ. That He will shelter you and wrap His loving armes around you until you are strong again and able to walk on in His Love.
Love in Christ Jesus

I KNOW WHAT BETTY IS GOING THROUGH RIGHT NOW. I'M IN LOUISIANNA WITH A FRIEND WHO HAD A STROKE NOV. 2ND. HE JUST CAME HOME FROM NURSING HOME YESTERDAY WHERE HE WAS GOING THROUGH REHAB.HE IS A LOT STRONGER NOW THAN WHEN I FIRST SAW HIM THE 4TH OF NOV. IT IS A LONG PROCESS TO GET BACK, BUT HOPEFULLY JACK'S STROKE WAS A MINOR ONE. MY FRIENDS WAS NOT MINOR.CAN'T WALK,CAN'T SEE TO THE LEFT,AND TALKS WITH A SLURR.OTHER WISE HE IS DOING GOOD,TAKING JABS AT ME AND BLAMING ME FOR THE COLD WEATHER.THEIR PRAYERS AND MINE GO OUT TO JACK!

Gosh. I sure hope I don't have to deal with something like this. If Jack is going into a coma and they don't expect him to come out it just has to be hard on Betty. It's hard to believe that we are at that age and anything can happen. As if life hasn't been tough enough, now we go through pain with our friend. I have been lucky. I haven't lost one of my brothers or my sister and all are in good health as far as I know. But...I know some day it will be me. I have been in so much pain lately, like all over my body, and I don't know why I'm having such a flar up. It happens sometimes. It's just the way this fibromyalgia is and I sure get tired of fighting every day with it. Well, I hope your having a good time and if your travels come to

We pulled up the Muskegon Chronical and found the deaths and several of the class mates wrote me. I have no idea what happened. I had gotten a card for Betty on her loss and then Bob popped up. My gosh. We must be getting old. I hate to see this. I really don't remember him and I spent so much time with so many of them. I must have missed him. I need to get my year book out. Betty doesn't have her address on so I am trying to get it.
Carol I am going to be staying with friends and family as I can't afford the cost of the cottages.

Carol,
I do remember Bob Webber, probably because he was from Rothbury, as was my cousin Marilyn Squires. Very quiet little guy, blonde brushcut hair. very pleasant, nice smile, but didn't have much to say. Carolyn said that he died of lung cancer. I called Carolyn Flagstead to get a mailing address for Betty. Didn't think she would be spending much time on the computer, so wanted to send her a card and condolences. Her address is
Bev.

Thank you. I have been waiting for the address. Like you, I need to send a card. Of course, I'm Mrs. Hallmark!!!! This site has been so great. I am so happy to talk to all of you. I can't believe how many years it's been. Looking at 70 makes me wonder how long I have. I just don't feel that old yet. I guess being in a park like this and being active helps you feel young. I know I can't do the things I used to but I'm content to do what I do. I love working part time and being around people of all ages. Guess that's what keeps me going. On Tuesdays, a bunch of us girls get together and go for coffee at the Penora Bread place down at the Coconut Mall and we all talk and talk. It is so fun. We leave at 7.30 so most of us don't bother to put our faces on. That's interesting. Just to see who does and doesn't. It sure a different look I must say. How cares???? Talk to you later.
