John J. Hesterfer, age 75, passed on September 9, 2018. John was born in Chicago, IL and was raised in Montclair NJ. He then raised his children in Glen Ridge, NJ until 1998 when he moved to the Gloucester County area, where he lived until his passing. John was a proud military veteran and served in the US Army and Army National Guard for over 15 years. John was a member of the American Legion Post #133 and the Knights of Columbus. After military service, John became a skilled optician.

John loved God, family, friends and his country. He loved to laugh and loved making others laugh.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years Diane M. (nee McIlvaine), children Meredith Hesterfer, Merrilee (Cesar) Diaz, Michael (Jennifer) Hawkins, DJ (Amanda) Thornton, his twin sister Barbara (David) Reidinger and grandchildren Jack, Nik, Heather, Preston, Mya, Ava, Bella and Caleb. Dear friend Phyllis, mother of Meredith and Merrilee.

Memorial service will be Saturday at2pm in Kemble Memorial United Methodist Church, 19 S. Broad St., Woodbury, NJ 08096. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kemble Memorial United Methodist Church, Woodbury, NJ or Parkinson's Foundation or Wounded War Veterans. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

John was my twin and close friend throughout our lives. We were born in Chicago, Ill, but came to NJ as children and shared many years of life, love and friends while growing up in Montclair.. John served proudly in the US Army and National Guard for 15 yrs, followed by years of work as a successful optical technician. Loved life, laughing and making others laugh.. He will always be in my heart and the hearts of our family and friends forever.
