In Memory

Ralph Livingston VIEW PROFILE

Ralph lost his life on a patrol in Korea on the DMZ. There is a  Ralph Livingston Scholarship Fund at the Montclair Art Museum which was created in April of 1971 through generous gifts made in his honor.

This is a letter received in 2010.

To begin with, I have no connections with Montclair High School, but I just discovered through your website that a long lost college roommate (at SUNY New Paltz), Ralph Livingston, passed away in 1969. I have been trying to locate Ralph through the internet over the past few years and I am saddened to "discover" that he died 41 years ago. Ralph (who was two or three years older and a senior when I was a sophomore) had an important impact on my early life as a college student, as well as on my future career as a university professor and art administrator. I wanted to communicate this to him if he was still alive, but now I know that he died long before his time, never experiencing life beyond youth. I know this only because I found the "Montclair High School Class of 1961" website. When I located Ralph's name on the site, I was pleased--that is, until I noticed the words "In Memory" above his recognizable picture. Because no one has yet posted a comment, I would like to do so in advance of the 50th reunion of Ralph's high school class. Although Ralph left us in 1969, his influence on my life is still here.

Sincerely,

Arthur F. Jones
Professor and Chair, Department of Art & Design, University of North Dakota
