D. F. Douglass

HISTORY

D.F. Douglass Elementary and High School was named after the late Dennis Fulton Douglass. Douglass opened its door in fall of 1958 with the enrollment of 97 students in elementary and 183 students in high school. The first principal of Douglass was Timothy E. Moone. Douglass closed its doors in 1998 due to a major decrease in enrollment. The last principal was MacArthur Brown.  Seemingly everyone who attended Douglass showed their school spirit by wearing the school colors green and gold. In 1981, D.F. Douglass won the State Championship in football. Behind every great football team, there's a great band. The hi-steppers of the Marching D.F. Douglass Hornets kept people in their seats...no trips to the concession stand until half-time was over!

ALMA MATER

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh we love a school in Georgia
‘tis the dearest of them all.
There we live and work together,
for the good of all.
 We, our zeal in inspiration
 our integrity display.
Our emblems of the characters
 we are building each day.
 One day new ports will call
we’ll answer one and all;
with confidence and void,
of doubt and fear.
 Loud then your praise, we’ll sing
clear share the echoes ring.
Thy hallowed name resounding,
far and near.
Beloved D.F. Douglass High School,
to thy preceps we'll be true
In each thing we say and do, D.F. Douglass High
