I was graduated from Douglass College in 1978, married an Irishman and moved to and fro. As they went through elementary school, I began to learn basic Irish (!) along with my sons so that I could help with homework. I passed my Driver's Test on the first attempt (uncommon in IRL) and drove a car with a manual transmission on the wrong side of the road. I learned how to enjoy rainy weather, appreciate the odd sunny day, and a lot more besides.

My career(s)? Gotta say it, I love being a Mom and Nana, otherwise, I have investigated workplace accidents and industrial disease, been a Personnel Manager for a clinical laboratory, owned two Irish pubs (in NYC and IRL) and now am a Librarian.

My sons, Brian and Kevin are fine lads: accomplished, smart, fun and very good-hearted. I am honored to be part of their lives.

That's it in a nutshell. The Dead were right, "What a long, strange trip it's been."

Go raibh maith agat!
(Thank you!)

School Story

To this day, I am grateful for the high caliber of teachers I had at PHHS. The student body was filled with interesting, intelligent and talented people and I learned a lot, usually for the better, but sometimes for the worse, from being in their company.

Two of the most useful classes I took at PHHS were Speech and Drama with Mr Meledandri and Typing I. The advice and practice I got during Speech class were invaluable as life wore on. As for typing, I was lousy, but I can't imagine what would have become of me had I not practiced daily for a whole year. It was the one class my mother forced me to take, and for years I hated to admit it, but she was so right.

Our paths crossed in one class over four years, Speech & Drama. Tony was probably like the rest of us, taking the class for a few easy credits, but when he had to get up to speak, he was so funny. Every single time!

My favorite moment was his stab at the Extemporaneous Speech. We were to draw a slip of paper out of a hat, read it aloud, then begin instantly to speak. He opened his paper, read the words, "To be or not to be," then scowled, rolled his eyes, smiled, and followed it with the line, "This is what President Kennedy said in his inaugural address." Half of the class cracked up, Mr Meledandri almost fell out of his chair laughing, but Tony smiled, pretended to be serious and gave his bogus speech with gusto and fake gravitas.  I learned a lot in those moments. Thanks, Tony.
