MEMORY QUILT - MADE BY MORENCI CLASSMATES

Tony Serna was the lucky winner of the Morenci Memory Quilt

Quilt is held by James Edd Hughs, Joe Castaneda and Randy Hedrick.  Thanks guys!

I've found that the older I get, memories are more vivid, friends are more dear, family more precious, and items mean more to me especially if they are things like my Mother's Bible, old pictures and collectibles.  I don't think I stand alone in this "past" faze as the social media, Facebook and a "Morenci Pals" page has grown in membership and a deep desire to reminence about old times, has made it a place I spend lots of time sharing memories.  I know I'm not the only one because that page has a membership of 1,846 as of today, 3/1/14.

For the MHS Class of 1969, we've had "family" reunions every 5 years because we just love our classmates so much.  We share a memory that is exclusive to people from Morenci.  Our memories are all in pictures and our heads.  We have no physical location to visit anymore - at least not OUR Morenci.  Now that Morenci Pals has been created, our 1969 family of about 120 has grown to many generations of Morenci classmates.

What could be more special, warm and cozy than a quilt made up of memories from our MHS family?  We gave the opportunity to anyone to contribute a memory or two and the response was wonderful.  They have been made into a quilt which will be auctioned or raffled off at our reunion.  I have had the awesome responsibility of combining those memories as I sew your quilt blocks into a quilt.

The quilt will be presented at the reunion on display until the dinner/dance where it will either be auctioned (probably) or raffled off.

Thank you for entrusting me to be the artist who collected your memories.
