I had the great priviledge to know Doug and be his friend up untill his death. I always thought it was wierd that when we were in school, we were put in "sections" or classrooms which seemed to define our status in life.(Or at least our assumed status) Doug was never in section 1. He graduated college, had great artistic abilities and created a life for himself surrounded by art and design. His eye for interior design certainly didn't come from our homes in Greenlee county. My last visit with him in Seattle was about a year before he died. His home was beautiful; a sculpture he had finished in high school was in a prominent place. At the airport, I held him and wept as he tried his very best to comfort me when it was he who was so ill. He had such calmness and serinity. What an exceptional person.

I don't think Doug would mind me telling you he left behind his devoted partner of 27 years, Raul.  I speak to Raul often and still share our grief from his passing.
