Jerry died in 1994, complications from lymphatic cancer, testicular cancer and kidney failure. He was my best friend. I will always have my memories of Roger Lowe and I, and the good times we had with Jerry. Nothing would put Jerry in a bad mood, not even Cancer. I even named my first son after him. Jerry was the first friend I had when my mom died and we moved from Texas. He introduced me to music, and the unique sense if humor he had. I miss him today.

Jerry had the most interesting and funny observations on life of anyone I have ever met. Once he had an oral report due in English that he had not prepared for. A girl ahead of him did a report on “Something.” Jerry decided to do a report on “Nothing.” The premise being that “Nothing is impossible, because if you took everything away, you’d have the space it was in, and that’s something.” Who else but Jerry would think of that on the spot?
Jerry was in and out of the hospital many times and his friends wouldn’t even know it. He didn’t want to burden us even when we told him to. He could make you laugh at painful experiences he had been through. I miss Jerry, and even now it is hard to believe he is gone.

Jerry was a very old and good soul and I am blessed to have known him. I will never forget the times Jerry, Tommy, Roger and I had together.

I think what impressed me the most about Jerry was not only the way he handled his illness but when we graduated they wanted to give him his diploma and he said no if he couldnt earn it he didnt want it. He went back the next year and graduated with the 1980 class. They called his name out and he got a standing ovation from the whole student body and a few of us graduates that had friends graduating that year and went back to see it. It was very emotional. I didnt even know he was sick until the awards ceremony the year we graduated. I went back into the gym after we seniors had walked out to watch my friends take there places as the next seniors and they were telling about it then. He will always be remembered. He was a very special person.
