I first met Ray, I think, when we played against each other in Little League baseball in Mt. Holly.  Tracy Black's Uncle George coached him on the Mt. Holly Methodist team and lovingly called him "Bones."  (Tracy reminded me of this just recently).  I have very fond memories from the 8th grade when Ray, Tracy, Jeff Shirley, Lisa Jones, myself and a few others were on the school newspaper staff at Mt. Holly Junior High.  That was a hoot of a class, let me tell you!  As we went to East Gaston, Ray remained his fun-loving self.  He and I both got coaxed into dressing up as women for the Powder Puff football game homecoming court our sophomore year (see photo above).  For sure, Ray was one of those people that you just never forgot.  His smile and sense of humor were one of a kind.  I know he will be greatly missed.  I'm proud to have known him and called him my friend.

Russell, i had the opportunity to speak to Ray 2 summers ago, and you are right, his smile and sense of humor will not be forgotten by his classmates.
