Hi everyone! Hope all is well and you are all as happy as can be!

Speaking of 80's music -- I watched "A Flock Of Seagulls" play to a very small audience at Main Street around 1995 or so. The turn out was pathetic. :( But I still had a great time. The opening band was an 80's cover band named "Ronnie Ray Gun" and they had a better reception than AFoS.

Around 2000, when I lived in Louisville for a short stint, I watched a double billing of "The Outfield" and "The Fixx" ... again, turn out was pretty pathetic. It seems that the Record Industry (now believed to be monopolized by Seagram & Sons) does not want you to like bands that are either not new, or not at least 25 years old.

Here's another shout out for Hobgood! (High fives to Tim Powers and John Garrett) I made email contact with William Muth a few years ago, who is Principal at Ashton Elementary. I'm sure he would love to hear from all of his past students. [http://www.sarasota.k12.fl.us/Ashton/pto.htm]

Curtis Iden -- you will be sorely missed. :( Your boys look just like you! Thanks for your service to our country, once again. Hopefully, those hours plugging hard earned quarters into the Bad Boys video game at the K.U.C. arcade paid off. ;)

What ever happened to John "Sid Viscous" Kenny?

Have any of Mr. Cooper's (Oakland math teacher) students recently reflected on his ominous warning: "Every year my students get dumber and dumber ..."

And have you all finally accepted that Rush is the best band? EVER! ;)

Hey Jeff Anderson, your band and drums rock! John Kenny was in CA last I heard and had survived the earthquake that hit the World Series in the 90's.

Bill Muth was one of the best teachers I ever had, thanks for the connection. Remember playing Superman on Atari? That was an intricate game.

Okay, here is another High school story. Our senior year I was challenged by a few fellow seniors (I will not implicate them here) to join them to take class pictures.

Some of them chose obvious fake names - Ben Dover, etc. The obvious fake names did not make it in. I chose Angelique Alexander. Some of us made it in the annual. You can find me as both a senior - Monique Reeves, and as a sophomore - Angelique Alexander.

Anyone else willing to admit to posing with me that day?

Outstanding website. I have seen a few people around town and in Nashville over the years but I really look forward to seeing everyone, until then everyone take care and be safe.

I forgot about the Dry Dock! I think some of us left and went to MTSU parties! Right, Stacey?

Does anyone else remember going to Mrs. McNabb's house for the end of year Math party? Now that I'm in education, I wonder; is that even legal????

I remember the scavenger hunts that the RHS drumline participated in all over Murfreesboro during the Wake-A-Thon. Kenny Bonds checked off the "pumpkin" on the list by 'borrowing' a HUGE one from a real estate agent's office under his shirt! And...having to do Chinese Fire Drills at the big intersections. I'd kill my son if I ever catch him being that stupid!

Karen McCasland and I sure had lots of fun when we lived in Tennessee-Poison, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, The Cult, Guns 'N Roses, and Motley Crue......Love ya girl!:)

See you all at the reunion!

Here's a little tale I remember from those daze...
The hour is 7:45am on a school day. Let us say that I was, smoking to go to school! Arrived for my first class, biology (which I actually liked!) with Mr. Nunley, or Radar O`Reilly from MASH. Anyhoo, our intrepid teacher quietly confers to me to step outside with him. I did, as did he! He told me, and I quote "Mr. Kunkel, you reek of cannabis." Well, that was it, busted. But alas, this humble man took pity on a silly 15 year old and told me to go and wash my hands and even gave me a piece of gum. After that, I waited until after his class, well, at least most of the time! I also remember going to Reelfoot lake with Mr. Nunley and an odd assortment of teachers and students. When I boarded the method of transportation I was greeted with "Oh my god. He's coming?" Sweet music to my ears. Mr. Nunley, if you're still out there, big thanks from me!
P.S. That winter trip to see the eagles on that giant lake was, shall we say, hmmm, smokin'?

Heather Darrell (Sinyard)

Dana,
Guess what? I am back in college and my Science textbook from two years ago was co-written by Mr. Nunley!!! He looks just the same! (His pic and bio was included) How weird is that? I had him for science too, but sadly missed out on the Reelfoot Lake trip due to a snow storm that year.

My goodness I was reading some of the messages and absoultley had to laugh at it all. What we all did in high school, would we even think of letting our kids do today? "You Big Dummy" sound familiar anyone? I bet it does to a lot of people from many different graduating classes at Oakland. I sure wish he could be there to see all of us today, although we would all still probably be big dummies.

Heather, I will plead the 5th on that comment-LOL! Those were definitely different times for me during that stage of my life. I will definitely lose my mind if the little one pulls some of the same stunts I did...and she is not even here yet!

OH! I came across an old picture of you when your eldest was an infant, will have to email it to you.

Wow-Nunley co-wrote your science text. Anyone hear about Vanzant? What about Mrs. Nelson?

07/17/08 12:37 AM #36

Victoria Bilbrey (Coronel)

Stacy,
Vanzant is at Blackman High now. There's a Ms. Nelson who substitutes all the time at Siegel High, but I'm not sure if it's the same Ms. Nelson. Everyone loves her, though.

To respond to Jeff Anderson's post on 7-10 about Mr. Cooper's students getting dumber and dumber, well I don't remember that one, but do remember another one very clearly. Whenever someone did a Trig problem for him, he would say, "Well, that's like going to Lebanon to get to Nashville." I still remember that, and even though I've been gone from the 'Boro since 1993, I still use this phrase today. My husband is the only one who appreciates it, though.

07/25/08 02:12 PM #38

Jeff Anderson

Hi Alicia! I have that phrase ingrained in my memory. I love to use whenever I can, which is not at all these days. Now I have to instead say "That's like going to Times Square to get anywhere else in NYC, including Times Square!"

And thanks for the kind words about the bands I played with, Tim P.

I hope I can still find my way around the 'Boro. In the twenty years since I left the place has grown exponentially. Never imagined I could ever get lost there but it's entirely possible, matter of fact it happened last time I was down there LOL!. Look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks.

Hey does anyone know if they are going to run this in the local newspaper about the reunion I have talked to different people and they had no idea about the reunion coming up. I think if they would more people would show up

Tammy,
We have posted several announcements in the DNJ and plan to have it run over the next few weeks.

Speaking of Mrs. Miller, I remember having her for Freshman English and she made me read a passage about Gustave Flaubert. Well I'm a no nothing freshman so I pronounced his name phonetically and she embarrasssed the hell out of me in front of everybody. We actually wound up getting along pretty well despite that incident though. She was a tough one.

Great job on the picture galleries! They bring back a lot of good memories.

Hats off to Monique for an awesome site and all her hard work! Go RHS!

It's been a long time since I've been in the 'Boro. Moved out soon after graduation. I'm so rusty on everyone's name but the site is starting to bring back memories....like cruising the movie theater shopping center or....does anyone remember that U2 played Murphy Center? They wouldn't be caught dead there now :) Saw Bryan Adams there too! I remember working at the Piggly Wiggly.....got fired for sneaking beer out the back....ooops :) Gosh, I remember the art teacher had it in for me...what was her name?? Anyone else remember sneaking off campus during lunchbreak?? Ahhh the memories....wait, was I a delinquent? Can't wait till the reunion....

08/01/08 11:51 PM #46

Jason Morgan

Hey Jason I remember you working at Piggly Wiggly. I worked next to you at Revco. I know we also got alot of eggs from that place for a fun night of driving around town egging each other with Missy Davis and I forget who all else was there, Candy and Jason Fann, I think!
Can;t wait to see you.

This is a great site! I love all the pictures! Does anyone remember Spanish with Mrs. Bennett or Art with Mrs. Reed. I saw Mrs. Reed the other day at Applebees, she hasn't changed much.

08/04/08 08:48 AM #48

Carol Bilbrey (Bennett)

Yes I remember Spanish with both Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Blum. I can even remember the first sentence of a paragraph of Spanish that Mrs. Bennett had us memorize about the cafeteria at Riverdale. I remember the pinatas that we had to make. I worked hard on mine. It was a white donkey with a red saddle. Some kids from another school had to use that room for something when they visited the school and busted most of the pinatas (including mine) all to pieces to see if they had candy in them. I was so upset about that. I had a couple of years of Latin before I took Spanish, and I think that made me appreciate Spanish a lot more than I would have if I would have just taken Spanish first. I ended up majoring in Spanish in college and getting a minor in French. I haven't spoken either language much since graduation though.

Hey Denise Trent, great to hear(read your post) from you. You can call me Timmy - I go by Tim or Timmy according to when you knew me. And of course everybody from Hobgood can call me Chester :^)

I sure miss those days - Mr. Muth was the best. Take care.
