After high school, I attended MTSU (BS, 1992) and taught 8th grade in Ripley, TN for a year before entering graduate school at Kansas State University (MA, 1996). I received a Ph. D. in Geography from Indiana University in 1999. Besides working at Western Auto in Murfreesboro as an undergrad, I have been a professor at the University of West Georgia and (currently) at the University of Central Arkansas. At UCA, I teach geospatial technologies courses (geographic information systems, computer cartography, remote sensing, quantitative analysis) at the undergraduate and graduate level. As director of our graduate programs, I have introduced a new Masters program in GIS which offers a 100% online instructional delivery option.
My wife April and I were wed in 1992 in her hometown of Dyersburg, TN (having met, incidentally, in one of Dr. Fullterton's geography courses at MTSU). April teaches high school special education English and history in nearby Perryville, AR. We have three children (Fletcher, b. 2003; Meredith, b. 2005; Stewart, b. 2005-- yes, they are twins) and two dogs. Both sets of grandparents live in Murfreesboro, so we are in town reasonably frequently.
Concerning hobbies or interests, mine currently mostly revolve around the Wiggles, Scooby Doo, and the management of peaceful conflict resolution (please note preponderance of small children mentioned above). However, were I to gain a nanny, I would be interested in reading (esp. historical nonfiction and an eclectic mix of literature), playing the piano, and gardening.
I look forward to the opportunity to hear from the OHS/RHS crowd.
