James Walter NORFOLK, Va.

James Franklin Walter, 49, of Norfolk, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at the home of his sister in Norfolk after a very short battle with cancer. In accordance with his wishes, his ashes will be scattered at sea from the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-66). Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The Cremation Society of Virginia is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may sign the guest register for him at target="_blank">www.cremate.org. Mr. Walter was born June 8, 1952, in Muscatine. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Muscatine, the Boy Scouts of America, DeMolay and was a lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1970, and attended Muscatine Community College before joining the U.S. Navy in 1971. He served in Vietnam and on board aircraft carriers, USS Kitty Hawk, USS Hancock, USS Enterprise and USS Carl Vinson before taking early retirement and returning to Iowa where he worked at the University of Iowa Medical Center for several years before relocating to Everett, Wash. in Sept. 2000. Survivors include a sister, Triss Anne Holland and her husband, Karl, of Norfolk; a nephew, Richard A. Quinn Jr. and fiancé, Cori Craig, of Norfolk; a niece, Sarah S. A. Havert and her husband, Glenn, of McHenry, Ill.; a great-niece, Kayla A. Havert; and a great-nephew, Casey A. Craig. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Winfield Pat and Barbara Anne McKee Walter.
