Can we raise 80,000 like the class of '79 did?

09/07/09 12:00 AM #3191

Leslie Crow (Reid)

how did the class of '79 raise it?

There were several of them that really stepped up to the plate and donated a BUNCH of money to pull it off.

Where were all of our millionaires last year? I don't recall one single person that offered to pay more than what the cost of the reuion was.

I'll give them props for what looked like a great reunion. They were very orginized, had tons of people that helped out, and they had close to 250 classmates show up.

Having said that, I hope that their legacy will not only be for raising that kind of money for a party, but to also get on board and do some community support as well.

How about some ideas? I might suggest us taking over one of the parks in the area in mid-June, and having a cookout one Saturday afternoon. And golf in the morning!

Or we could repeat the Saturday evening with a catered dinner at the OMHOF.

Or meet at Western Hills to add swimming/boating. I would bring my sailboats for that (we don't need no stinkin motors!).

What's the best time for something like this? I would presume the summer since it's in the middle of most of our 50ths.

If we really wanted to make it an event, we could do one in, say, March (Spring Break?) or April, and another in October (football game?).

I volunteer to coordinate and arrange and such. We just need ideas.

Cheers, Bill

Good ideas Bill. Early June is always good because of the nice weather.
I have a hookup to get the shelters rented at Honor Heights.

I love the OMHOF (Frisco Depot), but it's about 400 a night to rent out.

Raegan the middle school teacher says I'm not supposed to use the word "hookup" (especially if a former MHS girlfriend is mentioned... hmmm). I like the HH concept myself.

$400 seems a bit high. I've got bolt cutters. Might be too interesting :)

Leslie, I would love to put it on my credit card but Bank Of America dropped my credit line from 1 million to $3000. without warning and now I'm over the limit. They also raised my rate from 6% to 140%. :(

Debbie and I were talking and wondered if we wanted to do something for the troops again. We could fill boxes with stuff and send it....if we are going to do this we need to get busy...

The party/birthday party sounds great. We need a weekend of it though.

Tresa, you guys are seriously into get-togethers. I like that!

Boxes for the troops or not this year. We need to know and get started. Ft. Gibson Middle School helped out alot last year.

We need a vote.

I'm in, Debbie. The people I work for now are a lot nicer and probably more charitably minded than that jackass I wroked for at Azalea Inn last Christmas. I could probably put out some flyers at the store and get some of regular customers to help out with donating items. The library was also very nice about donating books last year, and I'm sure that they would help out again.

Debbie, I wanted to help last year and never made it down . Count me in this year and let me know what I can provide and when to show up. Thanks, Jim

Let us know what kinda stuff you need. Dee and I will be out of the country for a couple of weeks, but I can get cases of all kinds of snacks and supplies thru my suppliers when we get back.

I love the idea of a group 50th birthday celebration. June would be good. Maybe Western Hills?

For those of us out of town who are unable to make it to the Christmas package assembly parties, the USO has a care package where for $25 they will send a soldier a package of needed and requested items totaling a $75 value. A credit card, a few clicks, and you are done.

I'm all in for the reunion party and the items for the troops! My home is always welcome for meetings.

we are always in muskogee for thanksgiving, so having the "stuff the stockings" day over thanksgiving weekend last year worked great for me.

would anyone care to guess how many hits our website has gotten since it opened in may 2008 (1 hit per person per 24 hours)?
