Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

From Carol Bunch:

Dear classmates,

Jan and I had talked earlier about coming up with a cookbook featuring recipes from our class members. Well, I am currently taking a website design class and I need a semester project.

So... I am going to develop a NHS Class of '74 recipe website for my semester project. If there is enough demand, it might turn into an actual printed cookbook at some future date.

Anyway, I KNOW we have some excellent cooks (both amateur and professional) in our midst. Please send me your best recipes in any category, along with a brief personal note about each recipe-- why the recipe is special to you or your family, who gave you the recipe, a special occasion on which you served the recipe, etc.

I want your tried and true, family favorite, finger-lickin' good recipes to feature on the website. Once I get enough recipes, I'll send you the hyperlink to the website.

Send your recipes to cbunchtx@yahoo.com.

Thank you!

Carol Bunch

What Love means to a 4-8 year old.. .

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does love mean?'

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined See what you think:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore.
So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love..'

Rebecca- age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

' When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.
You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.'

Billy - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.'

Karl - age 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.'

Chrissy - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.'

Terri - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.'

Danny - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that.. They look gross when they kiss'

Emily - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.'

Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,'

Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.'

Noelle - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.'

Tommy - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.

He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.'

Cindy - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'My mommy loves me more than anybody You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night..'

Clare - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'

Elaine-age 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.'

Chris - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.'

Mary Ann - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.'

Lauren - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image)

Karen - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross.'

Mark - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.'

Jessica - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the final one

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,

'Nothing, I just helped him cry'

Don't forget everyone about the Casino Night!!!!!Still waiting to hear from some of you. So far 12 yes' which is about 16 people. Hey, don't be afraid to bring a guest, we don't bite, well, okay, maybe Nick. Last time no one actually cried and we had some wild experiences. We even worked on saving the planet, by seeing just how many of us could fit into that giant shower in case conserving water was necessary. There was some sing alongs in the lounge and I heard, but did not witness, Cindy playing on the escalator. I really never knew who won the most, but Marilou was seen clutching her money bucket pretty close. All I can say is we did have fun and it will be even better this time if YOU come! Pack an overnight and
BE THERE!!!!!!! Shawn

Perks of reaching 50 and heading towards 60!

01. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

02. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.

03. No one expects you to run--anywhere.

04. People call at 9 pm and ask, did I wake you?

05. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

06. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.

07. Things you buy now won't wear out.

08. You can eat supper at 4 pm.

09. You can live without sex but not your glasses.

10. You get into heated arguments about pension plans.

11. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.

12. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the room.

13. You sing along with elevator music.

14. Your eyes won't get much worse.

15 . Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

16. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service.

17. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either.

18. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size.

Hi everybody. I know ya have been waiting on news about the weekend. I finally talked to both Sam's Town and Eldorado. We are go for February 28. It was impossible to do the blocks without much much more time. Everyone will have to call and book your rooms individually. Sams Town # is 877-429-0711 Eldorado is 877-613-0711. If you have a free room that is great. Sam's Town is having a VIP deal but still has available. Eldorado does not have anything special that I could find out about. Room rate there is $150.00, but I think you may get a discount if you book online. Everyone needs to do your reservation asap, because it is the weekend. Try to call like tomorrow. We will plan to meet between 6-6:30 in the lounge at Eldorado on Saturday. I will let you know about our little mix & mingle. I know some may come on the spur. But if you already know you can be there, please let me know so we can plan the food for our mixer. I am so excited about seeing everyone and I just know we are going to have a good fun crowd. I have already heard from many. Let me know and if some of our classmates don't have computers please get in touch and invite them to join us. I will be checking my box.

Casino Night Update: Hope everyone is getting excited and ready for Casino Night. Our small group is growing and will only get better if you decide to join us. GREAT NEWS: Wayne Griffin has come through by providing a suite for the Mix and Mingle. Several classmates are providing our snacks and we even have champagne to toast our luck. Plan to meet first at the Eldorado Casino lounge between 6-6:30. Mix and Mingle Party 7:00 hosted by Wayne, Gambling or visiting to follow. Lunch at the Eldorado Market Place Buffet 11:30 Sunday morning. Then our goodbyes. Everyone is so invited and spouses or guest are all welcomed. Please don't forget to include classmates that don't have computers. Get your room reserved at Eldorado 877-613-0711 or Sams Town 877-429-0711 (the two casinos are right together so you can easily walk) Its going to be fun, count down begins.

Any questions let me know I will do the best I can to find out the answers. Always

From Sandy Wright Smith

Way to go...."Jim"...I remember driving to Texarkana with Jimmy to visit Pam Sitton. We had a blast.

Wow, the years do fly. You focus on getting through college, getting your spouse a good job, getting your kids through school(mine are still in school cuz it took some focus to get kids) and then you focus on the fun you had in the past.

Wow, the years do fly.

I'm trying hard to come to Shreveport and to the reunion this June. Thanks for staying in touch!

Love & Prayers, Sandy Besse

I really don't mean to drive everyone nuts about Casino Night, but ok I admit it, I am excited. We have a great crowd lined up and I think some I don't even know about.

Please see the 35 year reunion tab for some updated info on our upcoming reunion.

Please get your registration fee in the mail soon.

We have a limited number allowed in the room and don't want anyone to miss our fun reunion.

We have added SRO tickets for non-classmates and adult children of classmates who want to come to the concert only.

These will be first-come, first-served and will be issued only after all classmates have been given a chance to purchase tickets.

Our silent auction promises to have lots of diverse items and we hope will bring some extra dollars in to donate to the NHSAA and keep a fund going for future reunions.

Y'all keep checking the website and please send me your wedding pictures, family pictures and any oldies you might have!

From Jane Anne:

I guess I am just now getting with the program. Evidently my "smarter than me" spam filter keeps bouncing me, but now that I have seen the website, I'm sure I'll check frequently.

Jan--if I had know that senior photo would follow me around for the rest of my life, I would have covered my swimsuit straps!

See everyone at the Reunion if not sooner!

From John Foxjohn:

A few years ago, I had finished a novel that I absolutely loved. Now, like most authors, I love all mine, but some just have that special feel. If you’ve been there, you know exactly what I mean.

If you haven’t, I sincerely hope that one day, you get this feeling. It is a feeling that can come in all walks of life, but I think it is even more special for authors.

When I submitted this novel to my editor, it blew her away. Seriously, an editor who reads many manuscripts fell in love with my novel, Cold Tears. As a matter of fact, she even told me she didn’t think I could write a better book.

Now, in defense of my editor, since its release, many have fallen in love with Cold Tears. I am sure most of you know about all its sells numbers, awards, and all that so I want go into it.

You may not realize this right now, but this isn’t about Cold Tears.

My editor was right to fall in love with Cold Tears, but it seems she has had to eat some crow—the fact is, I have another one coming out that has again blown her away.

I signed the contract yesterday, and the question is, is the new one better than Cold Tears? That is hard to say, but I am telling everyone now, if Tattered Justice isn’t better, it is at least as good as. I am very lucky in that regard. I have now written two with that special feeling, and working on the third.

Several people have asked me if this is another David Mason mystery and wonder when the next one is coming. The next one is coming, trust me, but this isn’t one of them. I am about to introduce the reading public to a new character. I think you will love her.

Before you ask, I don’t have any information on the cover, when it will hit the shelves or anything at the moment. Right now, all I can tell you is that it is coming, and it will be worth the wait.

By the way, my editor has conceded that this one just might be better than Cold Tears.
