Paula Quandt (Libby)

Well, here's what I know about some of our classmates mentioned.  Bobbie Burnsed & husband Jim Wilson, own Wilson's Feed Store, in Napa. Bobbie, Diane Doughty, Kathy Klein, Gail Lecair & many others lived in the same neighborhood & went all through school together, since Westwood. We were great pals. I saw Bobbie a few yrs. ago & she hasn't changed a bit. Still sweet as can be.  Last time I saw her sis, Patty, we were both pregnant & sitting in Hemphill's offc. I believe she lives in the Santa Rosa area.

Andi Swars & I ran around together, too. She does have those sibs, those are their correct names, but I lost track of her when Craig was stationed in VA & we lived there till he got out of the Army. However, when we returned to Napa, Andi's parent, Ken & Geri, kept our eldest son for us while we worked. I never heard about her after that time.

We live in Napa, part-time, so it's been great to be able to see old friends, through the yrs. Since I lost my mom this last Jan., we are in the process of liquidating property in Napa & will make our home in Oceanside, our only home. Lots of people live down here, in SoCal. For example, Virginia Crosiar, Maie Visnapuu & others. Small world, huh?

Diane, yes I remember Bobbi from Ridgeview, both girls were very nice and very popular (I think both were home coming queens for their class). I took my kids (and now my grandkids) to the duck pond as Sonoma State. I guess several of the alums hit it big in software, hence all the donated buildings.  I read somewhere that it has the largest student body living on campus of any in the Cal university system.  Big changes for sure.

Stevie, didn't you live in Switzerland?

I ran into John Cozad at the 15th or 20th reunion (which ever one wasn't the western theme).  My wife also knew him from her days working at the Tom Foolery.  Sorry, haven't heard anything about him since.

Bruce, I gotta say I loved the english composition class your dad taught. He was a great Prof!

Hi Sammy.  Great to see you are still with us!

Hope to see you all at the reunion.

Hi all

Thank u Mary for the compliment!!! Wow this is fun reading all the comments. My family moved to Napa in the summer before our 11th grade year. Dad was stationed at Travis AFB. He had three girls and thought it best to get us away from all the airman. I guess he forgot there were boys in Napa!!! Glad he did!!

Can't wait to c all of u. Jerry r u sure u can't make it? Where r u anyway?

John Cozad is in Napa. I just left a message for him saying "someone" wanted to know where he was. I also asked him to come to this site and update his profile and come to the reunion. We'll see if he calls back.

John and I, and others, made the front page of the Napa Register in October 1963 and not in a good way. We all got "arrested".  I think John was driving the white van with one window painted white in back. There were no seats in the back so we sat on the floor. There we about 13 of us inside. It was the annual Seniors vs Juniors Halloween fight. We were wearing yellow rain coats (slickers) and the freshmen were not allowed to protect themselves in any way. The guys had loaded the van with rotten eggs, tomatoes, squash, and I think a watermelon or too. Eagads! The eggs broke and we were sliding in that mess of sticky eggs mixed with a few tomatoes. The odor was hidious. We would locate some freshmen and go to "war" with our arsenal of foods. I think we stopped at Alta Vista for one encounter. We were cruising down Soscal when that white window in the back began to glow pink. The van came to a stop, the back doors opened, and there stood about six police officers. They lined us up on the sidewalk, asked our names, shook their heads, and told us all to get back into the van. They escorted us to the jail. The boys went into the "tank" and the girls waited in the lobby for our parents to pick us up. What a night!

Jerry Charlup -- I'm delighted that you'll be there.  I think Fred Cohen told me you would -- but that was Fred...now I can believe it.

Sammy Dent -- I think I saw you at the last gathering.  If I remember correctly, you had a lovely wife & the cutest little daughter -- aged maybe 2 or 3?  Am I right, or am I blowing it in my dotage?

Re: Johnny Cozad...he'd better show up.  He owes me TWO -- not just one.  See if I remember this correctly.  In the 10th grade, I was Ridgeview's Quarterback.  In our first game with Redwood, we played to a 0 - 0 tie until sometime in the 4th quarter when I threw a pass which Cozad intercepted, returning it for a touchdown...the difference by which Redwood beat us.  Well, lightning does strike twice because in our second game, the same thing happened!!  At least that's how I remember it.

I've never forgiven him.

Re: Jerry Thomas -- he's in Peoria, AZ.  I just visited him last month & he's as great as ever.  The only problem is he looks terrific; has hardly changed at all.  Think we can shame him into flying to Napa for 24 hours to attend?  Maybe we can take up a collection for the poor old coot.

Myris Hicks Harbison Avery asked me to tell everyone 'Hello' from her.  She really wanted to make it to this reunion but she fell and broke something in her shoulder. She said that it is just too painful to make the long drive up here.

Just talked to John Cozad. He's alive and well in Napa. Says he's putting his check in the mail for the reunion.

His computer isn't working too well so he's not online and hasnt been to our website. Told me how he went into the Marines after graduation, married and had a son. Now single. Bought a motorcycle (two wheels in front) and trailer attachment. Will be leaving on a two week road trip next week.

I read the comments you all wrote to him and he really laughed and remembered you all.

Debbie,

Glad you found John Cozad. He's been keeping us up at night. He used to work for Napa County and the last postcard we sent ended up at the jail before it was returned. Very interesting check boxes they stamped on it. The box that was checked was "Not in custody." Thank you for all your help locating these lost souls.

I don't remember John Cozad, but I sure am glad you found him. Seems he was "hiding" in the backyard all this time !

Reading this Message Forum is kinda melancholic (is that a word ?) for me. It seems as if I missed a lot during my highschool years..I was probably the shyest one of the bunch, especially concerning all you ladies. I do remember everyone in the forum, but didn't really "know" any of you.( My first date was our senior prom !).

Seems some of us guys spent too much time around the poker table on weekend nights ( Andy Lyerla, Bruce Erricson, Shev Aguilar, Dave Aitken, Kerry Donahoe) and missed out on the other "activities" that were going on, that does not include YOU Bruce, you know EVEYONE it seems and was everywhere !  And Bruce, we went to a D'Backs game yesterday...do they ever SUCK !!! Went scoreless for 8 innings against the METs and then had 2 back-to-back homers in the bottom of the 9th...and lost 5-2.

OMG Erricson ! I just re-read the "old coot" comment..talk about glass houses !! I think you just insulted in the WHOLE CLASS and now YOU owe EVERYONE !!! Seems my "ear" comment still holds water ....

PS How do we add a photo to the forum ?

Mystery solved....Diane and I were just wondering why, when we played cards, Dave  always seemed to win and he always knew which cards were in our hands.  You guys were card sharks!

Bob, just a note to "clear" John Cozad's name - he worked at the jail. Don't know why after that Halloween night he'd ever want to go back.

You guys are too much!

Debbie "Wild Child" German -- love the Halloween story; somehow it fits in with my memories of you.  I hope you haven't changed.

Larry Hamilton -- thanks for the kind words re: my dad.  It seems like everytime I see someone after many years, they always say something nice about him.  (I guess that way, they don't have to tell me the truth about me.)  Larry, you were one of the funniest guys in school; as I remember you also played the clarinet.

Charlene, you must have had the crush on George Gibson; not me.  He was one of the handsomest guys in school & perhaps the only kid who never developed a single pimple.

I see that Jerry needs help, as usual.  Jer, I'm guessing that getting your photo on this site involves some sort of profile update.  That's just a guess, as I'm completely ignorant about these things -- maybe even worse than Jerry Davis.  Can someone help poor Jerry?

Speaking of whom, I've reread my last entry & still can't figure out how I've insulted the whole class.  (Though if I have, good riddance.)  Jerry, have you been sampling too much merlot?  Perhaps you have a terminal case of water in the ear.  Go to the pharmacy for help.

So what happened to Burt Williams?  He started all the nonsense & now he's bailed.  That's cowardice in the line of fire, A. B.

Keep in coming you guys, this is great.  And keep digging up these corpses from the past.

Bruce - Me? the wild child? I was one of the most obedient kids in Napa. I was the designated driver before they even invented that phrase. One little fling on Halloween and it was back to the books. I'm an angel angel

I'm preparing a picture show for the reunion. Do you have any old pictures of Napa? I'm looking for photos from the early 1960's.  Any suggestions of pictures or items from military service during the 60's that would be meaningful?

Cathleen Donahoe (Leonard)

OK, I have resisted this but hearing Nadja's name got me.  You lived just down the block and your dad would often drive me to school.  For some reason I remember he warmed up the car for a really long time.  I remember you and your parents being really nice people.  I used to walk by Bruce Ericsson's house on the way to Ridgeview wearing spoolies and in my rickrack skirt.  I remember the first girl (red headed) to wear black tights to Ridgeview (scandalous!!!!!!).  I was a pom pom girl only because Jane Dickel took me behind the quancet huts and taught me a routine.  (I have terrible motor planning skills)  Thank you to Jane!   Buddy Cade and I were partners at ballroom dancing during the 'contest' and we won first place including a trophy.  I think that was in the 6th grade. Len Casanega was the first boy that I ever had a 'puppy crush' on -didn't even qualify for puppy and I'm sure he never knew.  I do have some brownie camera pictures of some sock hops.  Linda Huber has contacted me and I really enjoyed that.  High school is a blur but I do remember exactly where I was standing by my locker in the main hall when people began crying because President John Kennedy had just been shot.  All of you will likely remember just where you were as well.

Looking forward to the reunion but I sure hope there are name tags!

OK Larry,

Was that a reference to one of the funniest movies of all time? --- One that's still funny 40+ years later? --- A movie where I literally found myself laughing during non-funny parts because I was catching up with the funny parts?  M*A*S*H*?

Jerry, you're one coot in a million; that's what makes you so special (he said as he picked 'em up & rolled 'em back).

When I review all the idiotic things I did in my youth (& fortunately I'm getting old enough that I forget a lot), the first that comes to mind is a weekend evening when Andy Lyerla, Etta Fowler (a fellow band member who was a year ahead of us) & I used to go out one of the many roads in Andy's old Olds & drink a bit.  (Thank goodness drugs weren't around when we were that age.)  On this particular occasion, we may have had a little more than was wise as I decided that I'd always wanted to be a hood ornament on an old car...so I became one.  As Andy hurtled us down Redwood Road or somesuch, I did my best to impersonate some greek-like figure on top of the '56 Olds' hood.  Somehow we survived.  Boy, were we dumb.  But I wasn't as wild as Debbie.

Hi Guys,

I found Doug Mott and talked to him a minute ago. Gave him our class website address so he can sign in and respond to you guys.  Say's he's not planning to go to the reunion sad

Bruce, you make me laugh. Would have loved to had seen you in the hood ornament pose. Looking forward to seeing you at the reunion. You were so very kind to me in 7th grade at Ridgeview - letting me wear your sweater on Sweater Day. What a very big deal that was for me.

I was feeling bad enough about not being able to attend, but now - reading all the comments - really makes me feel bad. Would be so wonderful to see everyone. Alas, I will have to send my hugs from North Carolina and wait for our ... 60th Reunion!?!?!?!
