Just saw the notice about the death of Buddy Cade. I was on the track team with Buddy when I was a junior. What a gifted athelete he was. Without a doubt the tallest sprinter I ever saw, and fast as hell! He was also great at the broad jump. I never really got to know him that well, but he always seemed to have a bemused smile on his face. I heard from others that he was a pretty tough kid in his early years, but he was always kind and gracious in working with me on the basic mechanics of our sport (we didn't have much of a track coach). When Bruce E. was down here for a visit, Buddy's name came up. I'd noticed, in the yearbook, that Buddy was a part of that 1963 championship football team. I wondered why in the world, with his size, speed, and jumping ability, he wasn't used as a receiver. A few weeks later, I found myself sitting across from his sister Shari, at a christmas dinner, and she said that he was in Arizona and that she would say hi for me. So sad for his family.
