I didn't know David Aitken in Jr High as I went to Redwood. I didn't know him in High School, but I do know I like his sense of humor that Bruce just posted! Sounds like a terrific guy.

What I remember of Dave was his love for "Detroit Iron" and "Muscle Cars" . We both worked at Kaiser Steel during the first college summer break. He drove us to work in an GTO convertible. Red. He didn't like riding in my Opel station wagon so he always drove. Damn that GTO was fast. Don't know why we were always late. I do know that I always brought a change of underwear. Does anyone know the date and circumstances of his passing? David Johnson

Although, I knew Dave in High School, I remember him best at the Junior College.  He was in our group who ate lunch together and met in the cafeteria for a game of Hearts.  Dave knew how to COUNT cards!  It was amazing to me how he knew the cards in everyone's hand.  Needless to say, Dave was usually the winner of the game.  Will miss your sense of humor, Dave.

Actually, Dave's '64 was a GTO. I spent many fun-filled miles riding shotgun in that car. Dave was a dear friend and left us far too early.

David was one of my closest friends since I met him in 5th grade at Westwood. We looked like Oliver and Hardy when we were together. His Jackie Gleason impersonation wes the best ! One summer every morning when my brother and I would wake up, David would be sitting on the edge of my bed, just waiting to start another fun day. He went on vacation with our family to southern California (Disneyland, I believe) with nothing more than a sock filled with quarters ! (my dad was furious ! funny now, not then). I remember at a football game at Ridgeview that for some reason David got to be the punter...he punted and the ball went backwards !!(more funny stuff). His Red GTO convertible was the fastest production car I have ever seen ! (Ask Steve Gregory about the drag race out on Silverado trail. Dave,my brother, and I were in Dave's car with the top down, and Dave still beat Steve's 3-barrell Chevy ! Wow...some memories !) Dave was always among our poker gang..Andy Lyerla, Bruce Erricson, Chev Aguilar,Kerry Donahoe...and I rember Andy's dad called David "Otto F"..wish Andy were still with us so he could remind me where THAT came from ! I could go on and on about  David,but....The last time I saw him was in Phoenix, Az, he was on a business trip, very early in 2000. I received an e-mail from his wife Judy not long after that informing me of his death. Apprently he was in the hospital for a hernia operation and while still recovering from that operation he suffered a fatal heart attck....

Take care, take your meds, and be carefull, all my old friends,

Jerry Thomas

I remember Dave from Ridgeview when we talked about many things.  His sense of humor was twisted, but timely.  I missed seeing him when I left for college.

My first encounter with Dave was in gym class at Ridgeview (7th grade). We were playing softball, I was playing outfield, and Dave was playing second base. Someone hit one deep, aware that there was a guy on base, I ran the ball down and immediately threw for home, with Dave yelling "throw it to third, throw it to third!". The last thing I heard was him saying "oh great, the kid can't count". Made me laugh, and I decided this was someone I needed to get to know. In the summer of 1964, I moved from American Canyon to Napa, near the old KVON drive-in, and guess who came knocking on my door?. Dave lived just around the corner. We became good friends our first year at the JC, and I did get to ride in that GTO.  Not only was it fast but it was a convertable! He could reduce me to hysterics.  My last memory of him was a trip we made to Marin JC to watch a basketball game.  We sat there as a fight broke out among the players, and then several fans joined in the melee. He turned to me and said "I'd be down too, if my foot wasn't caught in the bleechers". We emailed each other through the years and I was so sad to get Judie's email of his passing. Just a great guy.

Dave was a lot of fun, even when he tried to get me in trouble in class.  One rainy day he was sitting behind me and he kept giggling~ three of my (17 yr old) grey hairs were standing straight up due to the damp weather.   Silly guy.
