I'm saddened to hear of Dave's passing. He was a great friend through high school, and reconnected at our reunions. When Ron passed almost 10 years ago, he offered any help I might need. I enjoyed his photography on Facebook as well as his sense of humor. He was a talented photographer and a great family man.
We have lost a good one, an officer and a gentleman, as well as a wonderful friend.
My love and prayers to Kathy and the rest of Dave's family. He is missed. Rest in Peace, my friend.
So sad to hear that Dave is no longer with us. Such a gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humor and so many talents. I was happy to reconnect with him recently so long after our high school/tennis team days. My condolences to Kathy and to all of you who knew him. His presence made the world a better place.
So very, very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I remember him from school and what a fantastic guy he was.. My condolences to Kathy and his friends and family.
My heart goes out to Dave Berry's family with his passing. What a great guy; heroic and kind, funny and talented.
Dave was a lovely family man who let an exemplary life.
Dave Berry was one of the nicest, friendliest and good natured people it was ever my privilege to know. I met him on the first day of school in the eighth grade at Redwood, right after we moved to Napa. We were in a couple of classes together and he came up to the new guy and welcomed me. I did not realize it at the time but that was classic Dave, always the ambassador and always willing to lend a hand. I just lived a little ways up West Pueblo from him and we became fast friends, remaining close through the rest of junior high and then high school. He was a great guy to be around, always smiling and a terrific sense of humor. We had a lot of fun times both in school and out.
After high school I went off to college and Dave joined the army. I was not good at keeping in touch during that period, too much fun in college and no inkling of what my friend was going through. It was not until I went into the army after college that I realized the life Dave had been living during his time in Vietnam. He did not talk about it much but there were times after we reconnected. I also became aware of what an army medic had to face to do his job. He was a true hero and the most courageous person I ever met!
When we reconnected after he came back fron Vietnam, I immediately apologized profusely for not having been a better friend during his time there. Dave immediately made me feel worse when he just gave me a hug and sat down to talk. Truly a unique and special guy.
We kept in touch on and off from a distance for many years but, then like others, the reunions brought us back in to more contact. It was great to see how happy Dave was with Kathy and his family after the hardships he had faced earlier.
I had the good fortune to communicate with him more frequently the last couple of years and he was ever the same person right to the end. I will cherish his memory!
With Dave's passing we've lost a valued friend, classmate and another of our Class of '64 honored Veterans. Our heartfelt wishes and condolences to Kathy and family. This has been a long and arduous ordeal and Dave fought it through to the end with his characteristic great effort and dignity. One final detail for you Dave, secure that last LZ until we might all be together again.
Sad to hear of Dave’s passing. I got to know Dave more while we were on the tennis team together. To use an old cliché, Dave was a cool guy to be around. His mellow, easy-going personality and his sense of humor won’t ever be forgotten. Rest in peace.
It's taken me some time to post my comment because of the deep sadness I have felt. He was one of the finest men I have ever known. We went to Redwood and Napa High together. He could always make me laugh with his sharp wit. I am already missing his posts on Facebook. My sincere condolences to Kathy and the family.
